  • Comments Thread For: Joshua: I Have To Go To War - Break Takam's Will and Heart

Anthony Joshua is ready to "go to war" with Carlos Takam and turn his attention from knock-out blows to punishing body shots. Takam (35-3-1) stepped in at late notice for this weekend's WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight title clash with Joshua after the Briton's original opponent Kubrat Pulev withdrew due to injury. It meant a quick change in the 28-year-old's preparations for the bout in Cardiff, with Takam a very different fighter to Pulev.

I think it could longer, last 3 rounds if not the distance.

Takam could give him a lot of problems on the inside but he also box's and throws a lot of feints with his jab hand, stands side-on and Joshua will be punching down, which opens him up for Takam's best punch, the overhand right.

Lots of people thinking AJ is a complete, elite fighter on here where I still haven't seen his inside game or him fighting a guy with Takam's style.

Joshua will have to be careful and box smart, if he stands and trades with Takam on the inside or mid distance, I believe he could be stopped.

Takam really hasn't any significant power and ultimately nothing to make AJ respect and halt his advances.

I'm not trying to undermine his opposition, it just really is a terrible fight, I'd be shocked if it goes beyond 3.

Not one-punch ko power, but he is strong in the clinch, 240lb and a low-centre of gravity and has enough power to gain any HW's respect.....lets say you wouldn't want him to land flush with any overhand's or hooks.

He has the strength to push Joshua around in there, who weighs the same but is much taller, less power in the legs etc etc which is also why I don't see Takam getting bullied in there.

I have wanted AJ to fight guys like Takam for 2 years and that hasn't changed, just for my curiosity how he deals with different styles. Takam can do everything well and is not easy to stop, so I personally can't wait to see how AJ does on the inside and with a guy throwing overhand's at him and making him work every round. Haven't seen that yet.

I'll be very surprised if Takam lands a single punch on Joshua's head. Joshua is way too tall for this short ass.

"Irish" Anthony Joshua is still like a sop****re in Heavyweight college. He's now in the How To Promote Total Mismatches With A Straight Face semester.

Waited two years to face, how about the guy who beat Takam convincingly... Parker ?

I mean seriously who has Takam ever stopped of note ? You talk of power, sure he's strong, bullish he's not a concussive one punch KO specialist though, he's on a level where I credit him but he has no business at this level.

Not a terrible opponent at late notice, not a fight I'll watch though, I'll catch the replay I guess same with Wilder the weekend after, these are two very poor fights.

I understand you're looking forward to it, it's a step up from a Whyte and Breazeale fight could have been much worse, just very difficult to go out of my way to watch it though.

You think Parker beat Takam convincingly? I scored it 8-4 Takam.

Well you obviously don't rate Takam as highly as I do. Watch the Povetkin fight and pay attention to the in/out footwork speed, the lateral movement, the feinting with the jab and his inside work. And watch what he lands clean on Povetkin (who is an elite fighter and Takam didn't look out of place with).

The guy is highly skilled, durable and a world level fighter with an elite inside game. This is tough work for AJ IMO.
