Comments Thread For: Selby: Warrington is Emotionally Attached To Me, He's a Mark

IBF World Featherweight Champion Lee Selby believes that Josh Warrington is "just another mark, another opponent". On Saturday night, the Leeds Warrior stopped Dennis Ceylan to become mandatory challenger for Selby's belt. The all-British clash has been discussed for around 18 months and the fight could finally be made early next year.

Selby doing the typical UK belt holder strategy

Win a strap over the weakest champion, Fight nothing but low level competition for as long as he can

Dudes been a champ for a a few years now and he's in a red hot division fight a f.ucking respectable name

Think youre getting it confused with the Haymon strategy. 4 Brits have been in unifications this year, with another about to be signed. No other country comes close

No I'm pretty sure that's the UK strategy

It's like a bad joke how most of these UK fighters win their straps against the weakest competition then hold it hostage in the U.K. Fighting no name scrubs

I'll give you McDonnell, Selby and Yafai. Though McDonnell about to lose his, Selby Haymon fighter, and Yafai next fight either Gonzalez or a unification.

AJ - won his strap from the weakest champion ( Martin ) and the unification fight was just given because it was a big fight. Klit didn't have the WBA
Degeale / Jack - great fight made because of Haymon you know the guy you think uses the UK strategy
Cleverly / Jack - won his belt from Braehmer maybee weakest title holder in the division if not him then it's the guy Groves beat in Chudinov ( Groves and Eubank is going to be a sick fight though )

BJS/ Lemiuex - good fight and Saunders earned his strap off Lee. I'm a fan of BJs he cleaned out all his domestic rivals on the way up and is looking to fight the best

Once Brook got that strap he held that belt hostage for years fighting Jo-Jo dans / calibre opponets until he couldn't hide from Spence

Burns / Indongo was a trash unification . Burns got his strap fighting DI Rocco for a vacant ( Weakest possible Opponet) Indongo never beat anyone of substance until he beat Travosky who had never beaten a decent name.

Frampton / LSC - great fights , Frampton has shown he wants to fight the best deserves nothing but props

Haskins / Burnett /Zz - Props to Burnett

Flanagan / Linares - Flanagan won his strap fighting No name and has held his strap hostage since. He should get credit for actually facing a name though after all these years but he was trapped it was either Linares , Beltran

But let's be real the fighters you listed 1/2 got their strap off the weakest available champion. And a couple of those guys milked it fighting lesser calibre opponents for extended periods of time.

Obviously not all UK fighters do this and I'm a fan of lots of UK fighters but it's easier for UK fighters because of the politics of the sport and because of their fans to face and beat the weakest champion and/or hide out in the UK for years without facing any threats once they have it

I don't think Flanagan or Selby have milked their titles. I doubt either are rich.

They're just not particularly well followed fighters and have had some drab fights. I am certain either could have been taken over to fight in America against an American if they was any, if someone put in an offer.

Selby has to fight Warrington because Warrington actually sells tickets. Selby has a world title but he really has no kind of profile does he? Even his brother has a better platform. Signing with Haymon hurt him tbh.
