That is the qualification needed to get a title shot.

I'm disappointed that Gilberto has yet to unify at 168, and that the winner of that unification has yet to face GGG at 168, like should have happened years ago. Canelo isn't just holding up 160, he is holding up 168 as well! He's holding up GGG's legacy, and potentially Zurdo's and all the other top guys at 168 who could be fighting GGG right now if not for all of Canelo's ducking and time-wasting.

It's stuff like that that is ruining boxing and hurting the potential of so many boxers who could otherwise be stars by now, if not for all the ducking and delaying going on to favor the few proven economic stars of the sport. As usual, the powers that be obsess too much on what's in front of them, the few proven economic commodities, and don't realize that it's costing them twice as much money in unseen commodities that never get a chance to reach that level because the already proven commodities are prioritized to such an extent as to extinguish the entire rest of the sport.

It makes sense that promoters would want to maintain proven economic stars, but the last two decades they have gone way, way too far, to the extreme of sacrificing the entire sport just to do that. As a result, it is preventing many new economic stars from developing, as well as ruining all the best fights, which is driving fans away from the sport permanently so that even if stars did emerge, fans would not watch them because they are fed up with boxing entirely.

That is not a smart trade. Not for the sport, obviously, but also, not for business either, and I think that's what the power brokers of the sport don't realize. Put the product and the sport first, not individual cash cows, just the way that the NFL and UFC put the shield above any single player or team, and you will get the same result as them, which is the NFL being the leading team sport, economically, and the UFC being the leading combat sport, economically, at least show for show.

That is what boxing fans, and boxing power brokers, should be pushing for. Stop protecting one proven star at the expense of creating three new stars, and at the expense of exciting fights, overall fan happiness with the sport, and positive word of mouth. Why can't boxing's power brokers see, THAT IS NOT A GOOD TRADE. NOT AT ALL.
