Comments Thread For: Jezreel Corrales: I Was Winning on All 3 Cards, I Want a Rematch!

At Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, unbeaten featherweight Alberto Machado of Puerto Rico scored an eighth-round knockout of Jezreel Corrales to claim the World Boxing Association super featherweight belt. Panama's Corrales had lost the title on the scale on Friday when he failed to make weight for the bout. He was ineligible to regain it on Saturday, but that proved moot as Machado recovered from a fifth-round knockdown to seize the title, improving to 19-0 with 16 knockouts. Machado came back from the knockdown to hurt Corrales in the sixth and in the eighth he produced a combination that knocked out the Panamanian at 2:15 of the round.

threw way less punches per round in this fight than usually does

havent rewatched to see if that was a function of tiredness but given he missed the weight by so much and lampley ( who im presuming talked to him in a fighter meeting) said he was under conditioned, im guessing possibility he undertrained . doesnt help your cause in getting a rematch when you miss weight by so much and you try to interrupt machados post fight interview...probably wont sit well with the power-brokers that are hbo

Corrales might have been ahead but the momentum was shifting that fight. Machado was landing big and was becoming more effective.

Not to mention Corrales missed weight by 4 pounds. I don't see him being able to make weight and when he eventually moves up I think he will become way less effective.

Not sure what's next for Corrales. I'm thinking he's back in February or March on the ESPN platform moving up weight.

It was a premature stoppage to be honest. The ref was in a real hurry with that count

Corrales was another 4 rounds from the judges having to come into play. Being up on all the scorecards means nothing in this situation.
