If thats his ace in the hole he's f#cked lol. Trainer can't fight for you & Spence + Charlo got more going on then this guy to have done what they've done.

In regards to the promoter whats he supposed to say? "My guy is lucky to get past the first round & will be even luckier if he makes it to the finals & he'll be the luckiest guy in boxing if he somehow comes away with a W + $10M+ by winning this whole thing.

Spence and Charlo were singing this guy's praises a few months back. Given how tough and good they both are, I don't think their words should be taken lightly.

At the time the interviewer was asking them about the fact that Dereck James got two world champions, and they both, at the same time, said "Soon to be three!" And they starting going on and on about Rob Brant after that.

So I mean, of course there could be some personal bias since it's their stablemate, but I got the feeling that there was far more substance than bias by the way they were talking. They seemed genuinely impressed, and confident too about this guy.

Generally I'm of the opinion 90%+, or just the overwhelming majority, of who you are is your own talent & some lesser % is boosted up by your trainer. He hones your talent & steers you in the right directions.

A trainer can't make a fighter. A fighter can make a trainer doe. Spence & Charlo coulda went into 100 trainers gyms & likely got where they are, close to it or beyond it off of their own talent & will to succeed. And then those 100 different trainers mighta been as hyped as James is now.

My post is not about the trainer Dereck James at all, so I don't know why your post is loaded with that ish. Yes I mentioned Dereck James, but it seems like you saw that name and went straight into typing a response without reading the rest of the post.

My suggestion is to go back and read the post again, because what you are talking about is not what I was talking about at all.

Charlo looked above average and was considered the lesser of the twins before joining Dereck James.

And now he looks like a beast knocking out every one of his opponents and some are saying he is more complete than his brother.

Spence fought like a pure boxer when he turned pro, and to get more fans invested and him by getting more KOs, Dereck James changed his style, made him fight more on the inside and made turned him into a body snatcher so that he can wear his opponents down. I'm not making this up mind you, these were Dereck James's own words. (Okay he didn't use the word 'body snatcher' he just said he made him focus on body shots).

Cuz I mean to me the finals right now is Groves vs Eubank Jr as I don't think Callum is beating either of those guys necessarily & right now I'm not even counting Braehmer & Brant as much of anything until they show me something at 168lbs, if they can in their fight in a week & change.

No, trainers can't fight for you but a good trainer can bring out the best in you. Derrick James is a good trainer.

I think you're a little overboard with saying Charlo and Spence coulda gone anywhere and still got the same success, but I agree with your overall point. I would say less than 5% of world level fights are won due to the corner. And nothing tells me Brant will be close enough to Braehmer in skills, power, or experience for Derrick James to make a difference.

To be clear I said I think Spence or Charlo (or any top 10 type guy really) coulda went to any good trainer (I said any of 100 trainers, but thats what I meant, the top 1% of trainers lets say) & gotten almost as good, as good or better results. I wouldn't say any trainer could maximize a top fighter, but a lot of top trainers could more or less do just that I feel & I don't think thats a crazy thing to suggest at all.

To the point of much of this debate doe if Brant ain't got it, James can't give it to him is my overall main point. Either Brant gots the skills & James hones those skills into a sharper point or James being possessed by Eddie Futch & other great trainers of the past isn't gonna be able to help Brant become the fighter of the caliber of Spence or Charlo.
