  • Comments Thread For: Tony Yoka Decisions Jonathan Rice Over Six Rounds

Paris, France - Before a packed crowd at Zenith De Paris, Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka (2-0, 1 KO) won his second professional heavyweight bout with a six round unanimous decision over Jonathan Rice (7-3-1, 4 KOs). And the three judges scored it 58-56, 60-54 and 58-56. Yoka had some trouble in the early rounds, but got stronger as the fight played out - and had Rice in some trouble in the sixth and final round. Yoka said the 277-pound Rice was a very big puncher, so he was cautious in the early going.

I won't be shocked at all when Yoka gets iced by one of these opponents. The luckiest Olympic gold medallist I can think of in a long time, he'll do well to match Audley Harrison's achievements.

You right but sadly one day with the french establishment behind him he will probably get a vacant world title fight against someone who is worst than him...

        I guess it's coming from a brit.

There is nothing lucky about being an olympic gold medalist.

He had 2 close fights with Joyce and Hrgovic but damn it there is nothing crazy about him winning those fights.

He's olympic gold medalist but also world champion in ams.

He won twice a big event, can't be "lucky" twice...

Give the man props, dude is a great talent.

Dude is a talented fighter and honestly he did well in the olympic tournament.

He's world champion and olympic champion in ams by the age of 23 so you should not count him out.

Dude is still a work in progress.

And you gotta remember how Wilder and Joshua looked when they were ams and pro beginners.

If Hunter choose him then, dude got talent.

still can't believe he won the gold, the same guy who was iced by Erislandy Savon with one punch.

Don't rate yoka at all, even in the am's it looked like he was packing glass. Hope he proves me wrong and makes it to world level, good addition to the scene.

To be fair they are matching him hard.

He fought a guy who was 8-0 his first fight.

Then a guy who was 7-4 in his second fight and was ranked around number 100 on boxrec, was around 270 lbs.

At the end of the day he solved the puzzle.

But he's looking a bit gun shy and hesitant wich allows his opponents to touch him.

I thought he looked fantastic in this fight. Great jab, great body work early on. Gets a bit lazy defensively sometimes but that will get ironed out. I don't know about the chin, that's something we'll have to find out about.

Looks an excellent talent to me.
