Comments Thread For: Wilder: I Don't Even Want Stiverne Rematch, But Has to Happen

Deontay Wilder understands why fans are frustrated. The unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion doesn't want a rematch with Bermane Stiverne, either. That's why Wilder went out of his way to make an optional defense against unbeaten Cuban Luis Ortiz, including arranging six-figure compensation for Stiverne to step aside. Once Ortiz tested positive for banned substances, though, Wilder was left with little choice but to make a mandatory defense against Stiverne on November 4 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center (Showtime).

I really don't know why the WBC is pushing for this. Stirverne got caught cheating, has been inactive and the first fight wasn't even close.

Thanks a lot, Ortiz. Now we're stuck with this crap.

For the record I don't blame Wilder. He shouldn't have to accept being stripped of his title, which is what would happen if he pursued Ortiz.

Anything but a convincing KO win for Wilder in this useless fight will be a step backwards.

Wilder is right as Stiverene is a fricking joke and not worthy

Boxing is screwed up putting old Stiverne in with Wilder as Stivie has done little to deserve any fight. Fat slob druggie no Ingles ignorant chubby Ortiz screwed this up.

I think the fact that, 2 and a half years later, Stiverne hasn't fought anyone to deserve his mandatory shot looks even worse on the WBC.

He must've been reading some NSB threads. Save it Wilder, you've had 38 chances to step up and we're still waiting.

They will regain some measure of dignity by mandating Wilder vs Chris Arreola II after this Stiverne ****.

Well said! It's ridiculous that Stiverne became the mandatory in the 1st place!
