Comments Thread For: Berman in Talks With DiBella To Promote Lerena, Mbenge

CAPE TOWN Rodney Berman is working out a deal with United States promoter Lou DiBella to jointly promote Kevin "Two Guns" Lerena and Thulani Mbenge. America is the frontier all promoters want to break into, and Berman is determined that Lerena and Mbenge, two of the hottest stars in his stable, get the opportunity.

In America the Cruiserweight division is as popular as pro Bowling on ESPN 2 at 4am.

Lerena is somewhat underwhelming to be frank. During a bout with Johnny Miller, he got dropped, and then proceeded to get into a firefight for the remainder of the fight, and showed that he has hand speed as well as power when he sits down on his punches and throws combinations. By the end of the fight, Johnny Miller's face looked like it had been smashed repeatedly with a meat tenderiser. Ever since that fight however, he's suddenly become a pot shotter, who relies on his opponents to apply pressure so he can counter them.

A fight or two prior to his most recent title winning fight, he fought an absolute can from Botswana who came in overweight, and was expected to get blown out in a matter of seconds. The fat dude stayed in there until he got tired, then he quit. Simple as that. Kevin was tentative the whole ****ing time. I really like the dude, but I think he'll struggle when he steps up his level of comp.

Thulani Mbenge is a beast. Tall, rangy fighter who can fight tall, or on the inside, has fast hands, good jab, KO power in both hands, isn't afraid of going to the body and has the ability to go from Plan A to Plan B. If going for the KO isn't working, he'll box from the outside.

I think he has the potential to be our best export, along with Zolani Tete. Both dudes come from the same village in East London.

Lerena is waiting to get exposed. He's been handed more robbery decisions down in South Africa than any other fighter in the sport
