There isnt one but AJ is the closest thing to a poster boy.
Who's the current poster boy of Boxing?

If Joshua isn't, he will be soon. Of course he has to keep winning.
I don't think anybody is though at the moment. Joshua isn't that well known outside of the UK yet, although gaining popularity elsewhere quite quickly. Nobody cares about Canelo outside of Mexico and USA.
There difference is Joshua is still gaining popularity. Everyone that would need to know about Canelo already does, he isn't going to get more popular then he already is. He's probably peaked in that respect. Also, the general consensus in the public is that he just benefitted from dodgy judges and that probably takes the shine off things too.
Joshua will be. He has already shown he can fill stadiums, sell PPV's and his whole look would be more appealing to the casual fan. Ultimately, the average man on the street is going to be more impressed by a big ripped heavyweight that is knocking guys out.Last edited by TheBigLug; 10-03-2017, 10:03 AM.Comment

AJ sells out massive arena's in a matter of minutes and his personality sells well, that's why he's well endorsed (Under Armour, Lynx, French Connection etc) and he's had more defining fights, fights with genuine needle in Whyte and Knocked out an ATG in Wlad. What makes you think TC is better, especially in a "poster boy of the sport" sense? His best wins are Postol (who he exposed as being extremely average) Indongo (who was relatively unknown other than a lucky 1 punch knockout and a boring points win over a faded Ricky Burns) and Gamboa (Enough said)
i rate Crawford highly but until he fights and beats a fellow elite level fighter then he can't possibly be considered to be anywhere near the face of the sportComment

Canelo and it's not close!
He's just missing more stamina and speak English and he'd be much bigger here!
Everytime he opens up its a thing of beauty with the fluidity of his combos, counters and speed!
If he had the stamina of Roman Gonzalez then he'd be much harder to beat than he already is!Comment

Neither of those disqualify AJ from being the next boxing king imho.
Being "good" enough has absolutely nothing to do with being the face of boxing.
The requirements of being the face boxing aren't so simple that they are rooted in being good enough, otherwise Wlad would have been the face.
The masses/public/casuals have to connect with a fighter, and you can't force them to like somebody either.
Also, he sold weed for a while, so what? He also lifted a van off its wheels to allow a little kid's stuck soccer ball to roll out.Comment

That in my opinion discounts him from being the face, or at the very least, severely hinders him.Canelo and it's not close!

Even GGG with his severely broken English makes the effort. After the fight with Canelo, he had an interpreter in the ring, yet he still answered in his limited English.Comment

I can respect a fighter who wants to do things in their way! That in my opinion discounts him from being the face, or at the very least, severely hinders him.

Anyways just to ask, who do you have in your top 5 fighters currently active you'd bring in a bar brawl?Comment
