Soldier, you must not have been following Cotto... he's very big for a 140-lb. fighter (although that doesn't necessarily translate into being a good-sized welterweight). He drains down to 140 and gains plenty of weight by fight night. I wish I had an HBO card in front of me to reference, assuming they actually got his fight night weight. People've been noting for a while that he can't drain himself down too much longer and will need to move on. That is rarely the case for a junior welterweight fighter who only gains 7 pounds after weigh-in.

Guys, I heard from the In This Corner with Russ Anber (a boxing show) that Cotto is having ALOT of trouble making weight...moreso then usual. Angelo Dundee/Scully told him to bet on Malignaggi.

Cuz that's how it is...Just imagine all the ppl already on their seats with their drinks and then the fighter doesn't make the weight...That would make a riot for sure.

So what if he comes at 200 on fight night, if he makes the 140 limit at the weigh-in it's ok.

Hmm... never really thought of that. I heard it used to be on the same day.

Men are naturally bigger these days so it's harder for them to fit into the mandated weight classes as their careers move on. Cotto has been struggling to make 140-pounds for a while. You have to have the weigh-in the day before to give the fighters some chance of recovery from the punishment they've undergone through boling themselves down to a weight that is somewhat unnatural for a modern man.

Remember also the difference between water weight and actual solid poundage. Quick fluctuations in weight happen to us all the time but we usually go back to our approximate weight soon enough.

As far as Cotto's weight goes, this is an issue to address.

Jose Luis Castillo, Miguel Cotto, Jorge Arce and Erik Morales have all had tremendous problems making weight for fights recently.

What is going on at Top Rank?

Bob Arum is a man who has been indicted on charges of bribery to have the IBF's rankings system manipulated to include one of his own fighters ina favorable position once upon a time.

Is it really a stretch to think that such a man would not pull the odd string to give Cotto a few extra crucial hours' breathing room to make weight healthily and be able to perform?

The Castillo situation is over now, but I was told that Castillo stepped off the scale at one point and cracked at Arum in Spanish something to the effect of: "I told you I couldn't make the weight!"

Not to defend Castillo's actions as this situation could and should have been avoided, but this latest thing with Cotto also being a Top Rank fighter plus all the other aforementioned guys also having difficulty does raise a question as to what is happening with Top Rank now.

Morales came in to fight the Pacquiao rematch starched to the nines and was stopped, yet Arum is going to have Morales try to make a weight of 130-pounds that it looks like he will not be able to make healthily whatsoever.
