Comments Thread For: Chavez Sr: Golovkin Did Not Look The Same in Canelo Fight

People need to realize he has been fighting sub par fighters.
Once the level rises the flaws a fighter has are exposed.
and then you have to also add that styles make fights!!!
GGG has issues with movement.
same thing when Manny started facing fighters who moved more.
Its easier to ko fighters who stand right in front of you and neglect defense
great post !!
agree with all six points, especially the bold
don't wanna be a smartass, but I said that THREE years ago
Golovkin is obviously a terrific fighter, no question..... the issue was always..... how good is he, and could he be great?
in order to be regarded as great, you must beat great fighters..... because like you said "Once the level rises the flaws a fighter has are exposed".....
so yea..... the guys who had already christened Golovkin as "great" are the same guys you see running around making childish excusesComment

Chavez chatting ass hear triple G beat down one of the best p4p fighters in the sport canelo no matter what he says was feeling the power why he ran was a good performance by golovkin and think rematch he will stop canelo he looked bit like he had a bit of stage fright first few rounds and ring walk but by the fourth was just walking frew a big hitters punches like he was a flyeweight even before ward quit after that fight G become p4p n1Comment

Well at 36 Floyd was the lineal champ at 147,154 and still dominating while posters like you slammed him left and right..so why the excuses for GGG?? at over 40 Hopkins moved up 2 divisions and won titles at 175 and set records..yet ya;ll wanna set different standards for GGG..why??Comment

That's what happens when the media annoints you the next Mike Tyson, the expectation level rises.I believe GGG is a really good fighter but I don't think he's an all time great! It's funny how fans & boxing writers praised Jacobs & Canelo for the going the distance with GGG! That within itself its a testament to how good GGG is! Jacobs & Canelo received more praised for lasting the entire fight while GGG received criticism for how he won those fights.
You can't coin the term big drama show, and then go 12 rounds in 2 consecutive fights while being touched up.
GGG set a standard, he is failing to live up to it, I mean, he could not even get a Jr Middleweight out of there within 12 rounds.
GGG is a good fighter, not a great one, he is a product of the weakest era of middleweight boxing mabye ever.
GGG most likely will never fight someone in a higher weight class that is a danger to him, which is a shame, but unlike Mayweather, Manny, Canelo, Cotto, Oscar, GGG does not want to be great, not really.Comment

yep.......
his reputation is largely the product of great-matchmaking and great-marketing..... and reputation will not help you AT ALL when you get in there with a real one
Golovkin is actually the most "well-managed" fighter I have ever seen
but, just to ensure that I don't make a similar mistake to what I made with the second most well-managed fighter that I have ever seen, Pacquiao..... by ignoring his earlier work, and substance..... and focusing on the MOUNTAIN of bullshht that became the last half of his career.....
..... let's not forget that Golovkin is an outstanding fighter
even if you argue for Jacobs or Canelo, neither of them got a clean win over Golovkin
like with Pacquiao, it is the bullshht that I can't stand
fighters/fans need to keep it real, alwaysComment

Excellent post, green k!That's what happens when the media annoints you the next Mike Tyson, the expectation level rises.

History will not be kind to GGG! He'll still have a cult following and talked about like a myth but the substance was never there that matched the hype!
If he would've beaten Ward at 168, Degale and Badou Jack and KO'd them all then you can kind of bestow that on him!
But the fact of fighting a welterweight at 160, barely getting past Danny Jacobs without an immediate rematch and getting a draw against a smaller man who's nearly been a career Jr middleweight just doesn't cut it with all this talk of ranking him in ATG!Comment

I get that but not getting a crushing knockout doesn't mean GGG lost. GGG won 8-4.People need to realize he has been fighting sub par fighters...Once the level rises the flaws a fighter has are exposed...and then you have to also add that styles make fights!!! GGG has issues with movement..same thing when Manny started facing fighters who moved more..Its easier to ko fighters who stand right in front of you and neglect defense
Same thing happened to RJJ. He was smashing everybody stellar fashion that when he fought Tarver (and it was a legit 8-4 for Jones) some people thought he lost because he didn't launch Tarver him into outer space which lead to a unfortunate rematch.Comment

Ok come on you are reaching here. In this era it seems about 95% of the top guys are fighting a division below their natural weight. It’s common knowledge that these guys are struggling and going through hell many times to get down to the weight for the fight. So with that being the standard in boxing, GGG is the exception in boxing. He routinely weighs 163-165 several weeks prior to the fight. I recall him being 164 at a 30 day weigh in and his opponent was like 175 or more I believe. GGG has plenty of flaws, people don’t need to manufacture new ones lol. It’s fine though. People have the right to voice who they think Won.. that’s common ground in boxing..
I have TC over GGG and Nelo any day on the P4P. Nelo is ideally Top 3 easily by resume alone. From the videos uploaded I noticed a horde of comments saying that GGG is the #1 P4P, as if that’s been the priority since Ward left...
The winner of Rigo vs Loma will automatically be #1. Just itching to see how Rafael will spin it on ESPN P4P when Rigo takes it. That’s are more realistic matters than the 168 drained GGG vs an upcoming Nelo at 160 for a minuteComment
