Glad to see nick getting a shot. He's a local lad to me with a few mutual friends and him and his 2 brothers have never been given a fair crack.

His oldest brother Tony was thrust early into a British title shot and pulled out a late KO in a foty candidate against fellow scouser Tony dodson before he lost a very debatable decision against Paul Smith in another local derby. He was never given his rematch and his career petered out.

Jonny the youngest of the 3 has as much natural talent as anyone else in the UK but just can't get the backing. Long spells of uncertainty and inactivity have plagued him and it would be sad to think his career could end before he ever received his shot.

Nick was forced into an early retirement with a misdiagnosis and has struggled to get anyone to take a gamble on him since he's been relicensed. Again he may not be the most naturally talented but from what I've seen and heard first hand he has an unnatural work ethic and hunger and deserves his chance. This is a man who stays in the gym year round with or without the prospect of a fight. It says something when you can look at a pro athlete and their physique tells you they are an athlete.

The 3 are clean living likeable lads with a dad who knows as much about training/fighting as anyone. When you compare how they've been treated to how the smith bros have everything on a plate it makes you ask questions.

Win or lose though I'm just glad nick has been given an international platform, but anyone who likes an underdog should be backing him 110%.
