'Both sides are hoping to reach a deal before the year is out'
- Three months to get to a deal now.
- As we saw last time, GBP wants 4 months for the promotional bandwagon (May 6 JCC fight to 16 Sep GGG)
- Canelo's essentially been positioned to fight on the Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day weekends (16 Sep), basically picking up from where Floyd left off (difference being Canelo actually Mexican)
Looks like May, only question whether Golovkin will manage to squeeze another fight in between now and then.

Originally posted by GGG Gloveking View PostThat sounds good, but if that's true, why did he pay the sanction fee against Cotto, then again against Khan? And why the Smith fight? Smith surely isn't a name in US, and isnt the best at 154, so a belt is the only reason I can think that he would fight Mr Smith

Sometimes boxers fight off the back foot as Canelo did against Golovkin. Monzon often (usually ?) fought off the back foot too. Fighting off the back foot and running aren't the same thing.
I guess the 'Mexican Style' (MS) thing is imagined to be JCC Sr. or Barrera style of moving forwards with constant pressure, which is Golovkin's style (and I guess why he claims to have MS), but if Canelo tried to hold his ground like Morales did against Barrera, it becomes a slug-fest (like Barrera/Morales), and that's not the smartest way to fight Golovkin when Golovkin has the power edge.
Canelo did it right.

I haven't seen any reports on the PPVs, which is odd because HBO knows how many people watched the re-airing last weekend, so why don't they know how many people bought the fight on the 16th?
And I believe money would be the motivating factor for a rematch, rather than seeing a wounded animal
