He has my sympathies, but he could have just stayed quiet and left it between him and his family. Saying it after the fight is a bit tacky and makes him look like he's exploiting his dad's passing away to justify his loss.

He went to great effort not to tell anyone before the fight. It's not an excuse, probably just a release for him to be able to talk about it now that the fight is over.
