  • Good to see meaningful fights get rewarded. It's good for the sport.

    • I slightly disagree.

      • Still no official numbers for Mayweather/McGreggor and we're almost a month removed. I wonder why.

The impact from Canada isn't great enough to offset the revenue loss from fighting Lemieux. No Canelo stands to make the most money from fighting Golovkin. Dodging Golovkin again is a risk he may not want to take if he doesn't want to erode his fan base. I'm not saying G will get 45% but he will do better financially in the rematch.
Lol. If Canada actually was as bad a market as you want to say, why in the **** did Kovalev head there twice for his first two multi-million dollar paydays? Population numbers don't mean **** when you're talking about PPV boxing.

On his own name, Alvarez is already a draw on PPV; him vs TBA is likely good for 600k-700k PPV buys without any real worry. And, as much as you are openly trying to minimize things, David Lemieux is a draw in Montreal.

You're drastically overstating the size of draw and business that Golovkin brings to the table, lol

          • Too bad the rematch won't even do 97K.

No one is saying that Alvarez-Lemieux is going to do huge numbers; Alvarez is an established enough superstar to do monster business on TV in Mexico (pay cable and terrestrial) and draw well on PPV in the US (600k-700k homes isn't out of the question).

Add that Lemieux being on the bill gives the Canadian market a reason to throw in some money, and the reality that, once everything is counted and split, Alvarez walks away with 80%-85% of the pot.

Compare that to Alvarez's take on a Golovkin fight, where Golovkin doesn't bring the Canadian money, doesn't make the Mexico TV worth much more, isn't all that much of a draw in the US to begin with, and where Golovkin is said to be taking 40%-45% of the pot.

              The math isn't hard

Espinoza already put forward the range that they were expecting for the fight, with the formal tally underway.

No such thing has been put forward for Alvarez-Golovkin, and we're already a week past the fight.

You got that backwards. The circus fight hurt GGG-Nelo by being 3 weeks earlier. Never heard or read anything about it helping.
