Call me a hater, but, I'm glad Ward is gone.

Low blows, headbutts, boring fights, gift decisions, what's not to like right??? Ward has been in and out of boxing for years and I for one am glad to see him go. He was always overrated. He fought good fighters but he also fought a ton of bums. And now, he had no where else to go. Stevenson may have KOed him if they fought. Badu Jack had a belt so he wouldn't have taken the lopsided contract Ward would have given him. Most of the cruiserweights would have beaten him...badly. And all this heavyweight talk was nonsense to start off with. He will now "retire" for a year and a half and then magically come back and fight someone like Haye or Bellew or Parker, as long as they are a smaller heavyweight with a belt. Then he will avoid guys like Lewis and Wilder and he will "retire" again. A month ago I kept telling guys that Ward wouldn't fight for a year and they said I was crazy...well???

It's how you win as much as who you beat. He was never going to be very popular.

If he has some investments then retirement is probably a wiser decision then just taking damage and never breaking through with the fans.

I would have liked to see him stick around. There's plenty of tough competition for him. I wanted to see if he was truly great. Longevity is part of the recipe for greatness. Hopkins showed greatness in part because he fought at such a high level into his 40's. If Bernard would have packed it in early I wouldn't have nearly as much respect for him. I admired a guy who can be so successful and has that kind of will, at such an advanced age.

He won't really be missed. Very good fighter but he's been largely inactive for the last 5 years or so besides a few fights anyway. There's not a lot to miss about him.

He didn't exactly put fans on their feet cheering.

Never was going to be in a fight of the year.

            Also cheated left and right.

            Not much to miss really.
