If he wants it, give it to him. Mikey already walks around at 160+, and I'm sure he spars with bigger fighters. This can be a good fight and Mikey's biggest test. He clearly dominated and out-boxed Broner who is more of a WW. I still give the edge to Cotto, but got to tip my hat to Mikey for wanting that fight at 154.

I was just on boxing rec reviewing records of some of the past greats. Although dangerous, this type of jump isn't unprecedented.

It's clear Mikey sees an opportunity here to become a true star. Why not let him take the risk? He has nothing to lose and everything to gain here.

Mikey's power didn't carry up. I'd pick him to win but he'd never make those lower weights comfortably again. I don't think it's a good decision really...

I agree. All too often fans b!tch about fighters ducking, and fighters hiding out at weight classes. Now we have a guy who wants to step up and take on bigger challenges and there are still fans who find something to gripe about.

In early to mid-1900s, middleweights would jump up to fight heavyweights, then drop back to middleweight. Fighters often jumped up and down in weight classes (every one weight class back then was equivalent to two today). Look at Henry Armstrong holding three titles in different weight classes simultaneously.

Cotto is fighting at 154. That was all talk of from Cotto, he wasn't going to fight GGG. Cotto will end up fighting some Soto Karass in December.

This kinda reminds me of when Pac moved up 2 classes to fight DLH but this time Roach would be in the fading star's corner. I just hope Mikey does this natural because I am 99% sure Pac blasted out DLH with the help of some serious PEDs. I've never seen someone that fast and strong while fighting a bigger man in my life. But Mikey should definitely win this on points 116-112 type fight with Cotto having some success pushing Mikey to the ropes.

Bad fight for Mikey...and I really doubt it happens. I don't see Mikey going through with it without his brother in his corner - and didn't Roberto come out against this match up? Thought I read that on this site a couple of weeks ago.

I'd love it if Cotto decided to go out with a real ****...if not against GGG, then against one of the young lions at 154...or even against a strong welter at 152-54. I think Cotto has enough left to beat Thurman pretty handily; Spence would be a more interesting match up. I just don't want it to be Pepe Lemieux. Hard to get too excited for that fight, even though it's pretty risky.
