Comments Thread For: Saunders vs. Golovkin is The Preferred Fight, Says Warren

ANOTHER OF THE question marks to emerge from the weekend's events in Las Vegas is how the dubious draw between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez affects our own Billy Joe Saunders. The bottom line is that Bill will be fighting in December, one way or another. I want him to be fighting regardless, preferably against Golovkin and hopefully we can get that on.

Canelo camps previous objection to Golvkin v Saunders was that the proposed June unification bout was only 3 months before the September date and fears he might get cut/injured in some way (or lose), plus the Canelo/Golovkin fight needed to start getting marketed directly after the May Canelo/JCC fight, ie needed 4 months for the full promotional bandwagon.

A proposed unification match now is a full 5 months before the earliest proposed Canelo/Golovkin rematch, and just like the Canelo/JCC match, doesn't get in the way of the proposed rematch.

Other than fears that Golovkin may lose, can see no valid objections from the GBP as part of rematch negotiations.

There is an inconsistency that Golovkin's camp argued he needed more than 3 months to recover after the Jacobs fight, specifically according to Sanchez 'Golovkin was hurt more by the Jacobs fight than first thought - he was sore'. The Canelo fight was visibly more grueling for him, so fighting Saunders in Dec pretty-much confirms that was just compliant talk from Golovkin's camp to concede to the GBP stipulation that Golovkin not take that fight June Saunders fight.

So just like Canelo/JCC didn't get in the way of the first Golovkin/Canelo fight, I see no reason for this one to get in the way of the rematch.

And I for one would look forward to seeing this, possibly even more than the Canelo rematch (something new; comeuppance for Saunders; unification; good for Golovkin psychologically to dine on some raw meat in preparation for rematch; keeps Golovkin active etc)

      edit: historical note
Possibly the most savage fight in history was Frasier Ali, the Thrilla in Manila. This fight was so brutal it had Ali asking his corner to cut his gloves off (they refused), just before Frasier's corner called it. As Ali later said 'this was the closest to dying he had ever been'. Ali was back in the ring 4 and 1/2 months later. Canelo/Golovkin was a stroll in the park compared to the Manila fight - Golovkin can recover in 3.

Saunders is too cute for GGG, i'd expect a points victory for BJS at this point in their careers. If this took place 2 years ago i'd say GGG knocks him out but not now!

GGG needs to stay away from BJS, if a bum like Canelo was landing on him at will, my man BJS will give him a boxing lesson.

Is it true that Saunders was pulling over motorists and ****ing with them while pretending to be a cop? I am not sure if I believe it, although I do know he pretends to be a fighter, however he is not very believable at that either.

He's a world champion, not bad for someone who can't fight, and yes, it's true.

He's actually better at pretending to be a cop than he is being a "Champion" Boxer....
