Comments Thread For: Conlan: Golovkin is Sliding, I Don't Think He Wins Canelo Rematch

Irish Olympian Michael Conlan was shocked at the outcome of last week's middleweight clash between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Conlan is going to return to the ring this coming Friday night as part of Top Rank's card in Tuscon, Arizona.

Conlan was picking Canelo to win. He must have known that Alvarez's defense is on point. Not that GGG was slipping

GGG dominated Canelo - who cares... I don't care about the spins... Canelo was running to the ropes all night and couldn't handle GGG's jab...

Canelo doesn't want any parts of an immediate rematch and he knows it...

I saw some decline in Golovkin for the first time late in the fight, but not sure can definitely say its age vs being knackered by then in the fight. Canelo also started looking ragged near the end, Canelo's defence visibly decline through tiredness, but Golovkin couldn't capitalise through tiredness.

So I'm not sold its due to age. The fight was the most physically grueling Golovkin's been in, and now we know what he looks like when he's dog tired. Bit of a leap to say that's due to age.

Where there might be decline is where he didn't go to the body as 'he couldn't see the shots'. One of the first signs of decline is not pulling the trigger, and that one makes me wonder - would he have pulled the trigger more before. Dunno. He was missing a lot as it was, so maybe a younger Golovkin would have felt the same on the shots.

Conlan chance to have a dig at a referee......you know he's going to enjoy that part.

He's not sliding, he just stepped up his competition. His last two fights showed it. I would say last 3 but he TKO'd Brooks.

It's probably a combination of both. He definitely stepped up the comp but he is also in his mid thirties with a seek and destroy type of style. I am not sure how much longer that is going to last.
