Both had similar amount of visible facial damage but in the fight itself, Golovkin's punches were effecting Canelo Alvarez more (snapping his head back more frequently, forcing his entire body backwards for over 50% of practically every round and etc.)

So even if both Canelo and Golovkin are equal in the visible facial damage department, Golovkin was still more effective with his punches in other ways as I've already mentioned.

Also, Golovkin beat Jacobs fair and square! No doubt about that. He landed the more effective punches and therefore is the deserved winner.
