Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Discusses Canelo-Golovkin Outcome, Scoring

THE BOXING NAYSAYERS had their customary field day in the media on Monday, aiming their well worn slings and arrows in the direction of the sport because a ringside judge got a big call horribly wrong. To my mind and probably that of most boxing people, although not all Gennady Golovkin won the night against Saul Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas. Adalaide Byrd saw it differently and scored ten of the rounds to Canelo, leading to cries of corruption being levelled against boxing.

"On occasions judges do seem to lean towards the house fighters and you could make a comparison with home advantage in football, where the away teams often seem to get the short end of the stick with decisions when they visit grounds such as Old Trafford to play Manchester United."

One of the ******est, most nonsensical, most transparent excuses for corruption I have ever seen written, in any field. I will remember not to support fighters you promote in the future, Frank. Just shameful.

After Saunders/Monroe I didn't hang around to hear the scores. Monroe did nothing, easy decision for Saunders, had stopped caring by then, move on.

So only heard about that 115-114 scorecard later, which is indeed bizarre. Judge from Panama, so no national bias there.

All the uproar over Byrd's scorecard. No one is talking about Trella's scorecard! Why was scoring the bout a draw such a bad thing? The one judge who had Golovkin winning scored the bout 7-5. How does that make 6-6 way off baseline?

Warren: "I do not believe Byrd is guilty of anything other than incompetent rank bad scoring."

... the issue here is that Byrd actually proved to be quite very "competent" in the past... (with a notable exception -- namely B-Hop vs Calzaghe)

Yup everyone is ignoring the fact the other 2 judges basically had it a pick em fight. 1 had it deadlocked the other had GGG by the slightest margin you could win the fight. This notion that somehow GGG dominated and clearly won is BS. Take Byrd card away for a second and the other judges saw it a close fight that could go either way. Byrd had it too wide nobody won 10 rounds on either side. But if she scores 7-5 canelo or 6-6 you get the same result a draw.
