Fights against trout and cotto were good wins but they were still close. Some people (urbans) thought trout won. I actually thought ginger won but it was still close. Cotto was old as hell and worn torn and yet ginger still didnt hurt him. He'll even froid was close to stopping cotto in the twelve round (despite it was cotto gassing out). His fight against is still debatable. Many people felt lara had won. I thought it could of gone either way or maybe even lara. Also its hilarious in hindsight how Culero called him a runner and yet he didnt exactly fight "mexican style" against ggg. And lastly GGG, a guy he waited out for and thought he was vulnerable and conelo put on his running shoes and got a gift draw. A good fight, a somewhat close fight with ggg being the clear winner. I personally think GGG fans should be grateful cause they could of easily gone all the way and robbed golovkin instead of just settling for a draw. Oh yeah and he also got humiliated by mayweather lol

So will canelo ever convincingly beat a top level opponent?

If you mean judges will be affected by the decision in the Golovkin fight and score against him, I don't think so. They'll focus more on Byrd being stood down more than anything else now. One positive from the decision was judges know they'll have to be more clued up in what's going on in the ring, rather than the reactions from the crowd.
