Big Apple fight fans are invited to meet Notre Dame starting safety and team captain Tommy Zbikowski and "The Flushing Flash" former world champion Kevin Kelley at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Kingsway Gym on 28th and 5th. Both fighters will participate in an open workout in preparation for their undercard fights on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Fans in attendance will receive free autographed fight posters for the big pay-per-view Cotto vs. Malignaggi card.
In what could be an interesting situation, Kelley's opponent Bobby Pacquiao is also slated to work out at the same time as Kelley, although steps will now probably be taken to keep the fighters apart. Pacquiao, wife Lorelie, assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez and co-manager Michael Koncz should be landing in NYC right about now. According to Koncz, Pacquiao has sparred a total of 112 rounds in preparation for this fight with the likes of WBC super bantamweight champ Israel Vazquez, Robert "the Ghost Guerrero and Shadi Hamsho.
Manny Pacquiao speaks: "When I arrived in America to start my own training camp and saw Bobby the first time training at the Wild Card I was very surprised and happy to see the condition of his body and knew right away that he had worked very hard. I am very proud of my brother for preparing very hard for this fight. This is a good opportunity and a big break for Bobby. I know in my heart he is ready and will do his best on June 10th. I talked with Bobby and he understands I also have to train hard for my July 2nd fight with Larios so I can not go to New York to give him my support. In these final days before his fight Bobby will be in my prayers also, I will call a number of times to give him support and encouragement over the phone right up to the moment he steps into the ring."
