Lennox speaks on Which was his Defining Fight: Not Tyson, Not Holyfield..

An intresting interview with Lennox ...

    Lennox
In a recent interview conducted by Owen Slot for Times Online UK, Lennox discussed his defining bout of his career. Lennox Lewis says the defining moment did not come against Holyfield, Tyson, Oliver McCall or even Frank Bruno. The fight that made him was 10 years ago against Ray Mercer in Madison Square Garden.

Lewis tells The Times Online: “I couldn’t have got where I did unless I had got past Mercer. I had to really fight for the judges to give me the decision. They put me in a 15ft-ring, so when I took two steps back, my back was hitting the ropes. All he had to do, then, was pile in and make it look kind of close.

Lennox added: “And he hit hard. He was testing my heart. In boxing, you have to prove a lot of things. They said once I had no heart but that day I proved I had the heart."

The Champ is right. Both Holyfield and Tyson were past their best when they fought Lewis; but Mercer pushed Lennox to the max...took him to a place he'd never been before. It was gut-check time for Lennox Lewis...and he passed with flying colors, IMO. Great fight....grat defining fight. It proved Lennox was willing to war in the trences.

He should at least admit he was lucky though, thats the thing about Lewis, he's just a bit too arrogant.

People that under-rate Lewis' chin should take a long hard look at this fight.

This was also a fantastic Heavyweight tilt. Both men ate and gave huge bombs the entire fight.

Mercer had a huge punch and granite chin.

Some of the highlight reel knockouts he was racking up at the end of his career when he was old....were pretty damn exciting.

I rarely hear people mention his punching power.
