Canelo & Golovkin are just evenly matched. It's rematch adjustments to end rivalry.
Watching it now, this is clearly a case of the two best middleweights who styles and toughness were evenly matched. By that I mean Canelo's movement and combination punching gives Golovkin more to deal with and makes GGG a little less effective. However Canelo's best asset being his combination punching isn't effective in keeping GGG off him and GGG's pressure and harder shots wore Canelo down a bit.
I think too many want to make a hard case for their guy (GGG has no power, Canelo has no power). However I get the feeling that they both are very evenly matched because their strengths cancel out each other's weaknesses which helps them be even. This was probably always going to be a two or three fight rivalry where the winner of this rivalry will be he who is able to make the right adjustment for the rematch.
For Canelo, it will be pace and making a "bad" fight out of it so he can be more effective late. For Golovkin, I think it will simply be starting stronger and to the body more.
Two smart fighters. Who went to war in a highly skillful way. "Boxing Fans" complaining that the fight wasn't a knockdown, drag-out blood-fest need to remember this is Boxing on the highest level. A balance between war and skill between two experienced champions. I'm sorry, as much as I loved Gatti-Ward, they aren't the most skilled. Therefor you saw less caution. Castillo/Corrales was a highly skilled fight like this, however the drama was created because of Corrales chin and a surprise comeback. Not ever fight will end that way.
This was great. The rematch will tell the full story.
