Comments Thread For: Canelo: Golovkin's Not The Monster That Everybody Talked About

LAS VEGAS Canelo Alvarez displayed a granite chin once again against one of boxing's biggest punchers Saturday night. The determined Mexican superstar survived Gennady Golovkin persistent pressure, took the defending champion's most damaging shots well and kept fighting hard during their 12-round middleweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena. Alvarez admitted following their 12-round draw that Golovkin's power was unlike anything he had encountered in his first 51 professional fights, but added that it wasn't quite as devastating as everyone has made it out to be.

They both proved they have granite chin. It was just a high level fight between two high level fighters. It Byrd didn't ruin it with her horrible scorecard native the narrative for this bout would be spoken about differently

Canelo ran 80% of the fight.

GGG got old, couldn't pull the trigger and head hunted all night like a novice.

But all of that being said I still enjoyed watching

Top level punchers get labelled monsters. It's not something to be taken literally.

Adelaide Byrd is a disgrace, however I didn't mind the draw because I believe 6-6, or 7-5 for Golovkin, is an acceptable score. Canelo is right, GGG is not a "monster" anymore! Canelo proved he was the better boxer! However he made the same mistake as Oscar did vs. Trinidad! GGG was very winded, yet Canelo failed to press him! The only good that can come out of a rematch, is that maybe Haymon can convince Charlo to face Jacobs next! No need to sit around and wait a year for a title shot! Charlo vs. Jacobs! Make it happen!

I never saw Canelo running that much - but he did the smart thing. Shame for him his stamina would always be his downfall against Gennady.

Yeah...because you and GBP waited a few years till he had slowed down quite a bit. A 35 year old still beat you.

Golovkin was not the monster that everybody has talked about, it's because you (Canelo) quickly changed your nationality from Mexican w/ ferocious style into someone whose wary & mostly back pedalling the whole time, because if u do ur usual style u will be knock-out cold. And u already know how to hug & hold, ur always an offensive fighter showing to be defensive the whole time on this game. How in this world will u win the game, and that 118-110 scoring is a shame for boxing. Golovkin clearly won the game by at least 8-4 advantage.
