Comments Thread For: Sanchez: Canelo Doesn't Have the Punching Power Golovkin Does

LAS VEGAS Abel Sanchez knows Canelo Alvarez is dangerous. Gennady Golovkin's trainer has watched Alvarez develop over the past couple years into a masterful counter-puncher capable of taking opponents out with his left hook. Sanchez has warned Golovkin throughout training camp to be wary of Alvarez's uppercuts and body shots, too.

Good thing you're not GGG's trainer. Because if his gameplan is to recklessly walk through Canelo's shots in order to land his own. He's probably gonna get stopped.

I still haven't made up my mind on who to pick for this fight, but what Sanchez says here is along the lines of what I'm thinking.

Canelo hit Chavez Jr with everything but the kitchen sink and he still couldn't stop him. So will be be able to hurt Golovkin?

          I have my doubts.

That means that Canelo will have to win by decision. Is his footwork good enough to help him do that? And can he absorb the punishment that GGG is going to dish out for all 12 rounds?

In a nutshell that's what this fight will come down to in my opinion.

well hes not gonna stand there with his chin in the air but if he has to take a shot to land a shot then he should do. canelo had 12 rounds to get chavez out of there but he couldnt.

Chavez Jr is at least a natural super middleweight, maybe light heavyweight with an excellent chin. The only time we've seen Jr hurt was against a light heavyweight. A middleweight not being able to KO a light heavyweight doesn't make him Paulie Malignaggi.

I think Abel, and a lot of people are reading too much into the Chavez Jr fight. First off, Canelo almost completely neglected going to Jr's body because it was almost impossible to miss his head. Canelo also never stepped on the gas and pressed for the KO. Canelo basically sat back and pot shot'd his way to a points win. He fought incredibly smart. He's only chance in tat fight was to catch Canelo with a lucky shot. And Canelo didn't give him the opportunity to do that by fighting intellectually.

Well said. Chavez was Champ at a young age as WW but quickly moved up because 1 lack of discipline and 2 age. He was a very large middle weight.
He has the height at 6'1" which also takes power from the boxer punching up.
Chavez has never been ?ed to have a week chin. Sergio hit Chavez with everything as well then got dropped and almost koed in the 12th.
And people saying Chavez was weight drained. BS he was in shape for once but just got out boxed. Chavez could have made 160 for the fight and even said so!!
