    Edison Pantera Miranda Interview

He talks about beating Eastman and his upcoming fight with Abraham.

HOLLYWOOD, FL.- 15ROUNDS.com recently caught up with the IBF middleweight mandatory challenger Edison “Pantera” Miranda to discuss his upcoming title shot versus Arthur Abraham, his recent victory over Howard Eastman on Friday night fights, his thoughts on Jermain Taylor plus more.

15ROUNDS: Thank you Edison for taking the time and congratulations on recently winning an IBF eliminator against Howard Eastman on Friday night fights.

    EDISON: Thank you

15ROUNDS: At the time Eastman was considered a top middleweight, how did it feel to be tested and pass the test?

EDISON: I didn’t feel satisfied that I beat Eastman, I felt satisfied that the sacrifice of the every day training all pays off.

15ROUNDS: Did Eastman hurt you in the sixth before he took you out in the seventh?

EDISON: He hit me two times real good but I was prepared and that’s what is excellent about me.

15ROUNDS: Was it your goal to stop Eastman who has not been stopped in forty-three fights?

EDISON: I knew I was going to stop him because I have seen a lot of tapes. He’s a boxer who does not know how to fight as he’s moving backwards so my plan was to keep attacking him.

15ROUNDS: You are now the IBF number one challenger and will probably face Arthur Abraham this summer, how does it feel that you will get a world title shot this year?

EDISON: I’m prepared, not to start a rivalry or anything but he’s just like a little chicken he’s not a boxer. He wins his fights in Germany, I’ll knock him out there if that’s where he wants to fight and I’ll even bring his girl down with me.

15ROUNDS: Abraham would come in as a sleight favorite. He has not been seen here in the states, what can you tell me about him?

EDISON: The truth is he’s just a bad boxer all the way around. He wins because he lives in Germany and fights a bunch of women. When Edison Miranda comes out there he’s going to know what boxing is.

15ROUNDS: Do you mind going to Germany to fight him?

EDISON: I’ll fight where ever, even under the water I’ll fight with him.

15ROUNDS: You are a very big middleweight and have fought as high as light heavyweight, how long can you stay at 160?

EDISON: I’m making 158-159 with no problem right now so there is no problem with that.

15ROUNDS: In the last few months you have been calling out Jermain Taylor, is that the fight that you want the most?

EDISON: Yeah that’s the fight but not for me but for the American public. I want them to see a night of action and I think that would be it Edison Miranda-Jermain Taylor.

15ROUNDS: Who do you like Taylor or Wright?

EDISON: Jermain Taylor should win, he’s young. Winky Wright is 36-37 years old and has a lot of experience which is important but I think Jermain.

15ROUNDS: You have stated that you have had a rough childhood like being homeless and the inability to eat is boxing easy to you compared to the way you were raised?

EDISON: Things in the streets are harder; boxing to me is something simple. The hardest thing about boxing to me is waking up in the morning to run after that everything just falls into place. Boxing can become hard if you mix it with alcohol, drugs and all the corruption in the streets. That’s when boxing becomes hard because mentally your mind is not prepared for that. If you have a clean life boxing is easy.

15ROUNDS: What drove you to box?

EDISON: I didn’t want to box, I just asked God for a good life. I didn’t want to be just a worker and one day I had a boxing dream so that’s when it started I went to boxing.

15ROUNDS: Were you a good fighter in the street, did that have anything to do with it?

EDISON: Yes, I used to fight a lot in the streets.

15ROUNDS: What does coming to America and being promoted by a major company like Warriors means to you?

EDISON: To be honest, I always thank God for the opportunity to come to the U.S. and a lot of thanks for Greg and Steve who manage me because if I had someone else managing me I would be the same boxer but would not have the same publicity and they work real hard for me. For example I had a manager in Columbia and he never was going to do what they are doing now.

15ROUNDS: How did Greg and Steve find you?

EDISON: I was in the gym that one day and those two whiteys came and fell in love with me. (Laughing)

15ROUNDS: After having your first 21 fights in Columbia and The Dominican Republic did you think that you would never get noticed by a promotional company and be televised on ESPN?

EDISON: I always wished something like that would happen to me and I didn’t know how long it would take but I knew I would get to that point.

15ROUNDS: Where did you get the nickname “Pantera”?

EDISON: Steve and Greg made that up.

15ROUNDS: What boxer did you admire the most growing up?

EDISON: The truth is when I was young I didn’t know about boxing but once I started to know boxing of course Muhammad Ali.

15ROUNDS: You have built up a large fan base in South Florida and around the world; do you have any final words for them?

EDISON: Thank you for supporting me and I’ll always give my best to you guys. I liked the fight with Eastman a lot because he’s a well known boxer and those are the fights that motivate me because when I bring somebody down of that quality the fans have more confidence in me. I always wanted to fight guys like Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright. Any retirees like Trinidad want to come up and fight me, bring them. I fight because I need money that is very important but I do want to satisfy the boxing fans. I want them to have that confidence in boxing like in times past like they did before.

It looked as though Eastman could have continued in that fight.
