  • Comments Thread For: Kell Brook Return Targeted For Year-End Date, Says Hearn

The return of former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook is being targeted for the end of the year, says promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) was defeated in his last two bouts, and came away from both with serious injury.

I think a Cotto fight could be great - not sure who I'd favour at this point though, Kell isn't exactly fresh anymore.

Hearn wants Brook to come back at 154. He won't likely secure the fight that Hearn most desires for his boxer - a showdown with WBO world champion Miguel Cotto, who plans to retire from the sport after taking part in a final career fight in December. But his departure could up open the door for Brook to fight for the vacant belt in 2018.
“I want him to come back at 154lbs,” Hearn explained. “I think we need a good solid fight at light middleweight. He’s not going to come back against [Miguel] Cotto, it’s not going to happen unless we get asked. If we want to do that fight in the States then it’s up to Kell. I never make the decisions on who he fights. I would rather he had a comeback fight at 154. He’s had two losses, I want to see some wins on that record, even if we have two fights in three or four months.”

not 100% on board with what Hearn said there

love him or hate him, Brook has balls of steel

      protect the guy from himself

it is not the two losses, it is the manner of those losses

I am sure that Kell wants nothing other than big fights, and he deserves it ..... but Hearn should look at bringing him back in a lower-tier showcase fight and then maybe someone like Liam Smith

would hate to see Brook end up looking like this.....

OMG...Liam Williams from the UK is rated #1. by the WBO!!! how does Eddie Hearn do it? this man is a magician how he manages to cherry pick the worst for his fighters to become 'World-Champions'.

Edit: and Williams if fighting euro-bum Liam Smith shortly!

Theyre both Frank Warren fighters, Hearn doesn't tend to get involved in anything WBO wise

I was wondering about this I remember Warren standing next to Smith and Williams in the presser HOWEVER if Kell becomes mando it does not matter what differences exist between both promoters as Matchroom may have the right to force a purse bid ; Warren may win it but the fight must be made nonetheless.

WBO have said Smith/Williams is a final eliminator. Don't think WBO would stand in the way of a Brook/Cotto fight though, be interesting to see if Brook pops up in any rankings in the next updates.

Things aren't that great between Warren and Hearn at the moment, don't know what would happen if Brook had to fight Smith or Williams, Warren already pulled out of a purse bid this year for Yarde and Burton, and called off McDonnell/Butler at the last moment.

I think that Brook should retire. Two broken orbital bones in a row is a weird situation. I think that fighting against Golovkin was a mistake. Gennady broke Kell. I know that it is his life but I don't want to see him severely injured.

I was more in line with the writers narrative : Cotto retires in December, the winner of Smith vs. Williams is secured a title shot then Kell Brook is granted the opportunity to fight for the WBO jr. middleweight title -- I'm almost sure the WBO will not hold the title vacant to schedule another eliminator involving Kell Brook vs. a bum...but who knows.

As far was Warren pulling out of fights no surprise, I'm not too sure he would with these guys, lets face it they are not world beaters and have reached their ceiling, why not cash out?

Am I crazy or shouldn't you be taking a lil more time off after you break your f#cking face, twice now, at this point?

                    Break face in Sept.
Break other side of face in May, 8 mos later
Fight planed in Nov/Dec, 6-7mos later

I'm surprised he didn't quit after the first face breaking incident & really surprised he didn't retire after the second face breaking incident or at least take off a lil more time. I mean he still is 31. Not like taking a year off is gonna f#ck up too much of his remaining time vs his time just becoming up sooner if his face or other body parts keep getting f#cked up. Or maybe dude is just cashing out 1, 2, 3 if this Nov/Dec opponent is a big opponent cuz he knows his days are numbered with these injuries.
