I'd prob get rid of everything below like 118, then I would prob institute a rule not ever letting anyone fight at 154, FOR ANY REASON< AGREEMENT OR ANYTHING.
I think it strips 147 guys and 160 of opportunity in a complex way. Look at how cotto hijacked that belt for a while, knoing he'd get steam rolled by a natural 160 guy at 160.
Floys also used 154 pretty intelligently. i think everyone at 154 should be fighting 160............................................... ....................LAra all those guys
I would have:
115 Bantamweight
125 Featherweight
135 Lightweight
147 Welterweight
160 Middleweight
175 Light Heavy
200 Heavy
Less divisions is better competition. Bigger differences in weight means less weight games will be played by fighters.
I'd also enforce fight night rehydration limit of 10% of bodyweight. And I mean FIGHT NIGHT, not the morning of, or 'due to scheduling the day before'. You arrive at the arena, you relax, and an hour before the fight you get weighed.
I would poll the fighters and see what they think before I could make a decision like that.
But I'll say this, there aren't any divisions I'm inclined to remove.

Eh, big gap between LH and H seems unrealistic given how big some of these guys get. If anything, there needs to be a super heavyweight division.
Plus you're putting all them strawweights out of work. They might not make headlines here in the west, but boxing fans in the east may feel differently.
I'd kill them all & start over with MMA weight divisions which are more reasonable to me & kills a lot of the bs lil guy divisions. Still crazy to me 105-135 (30lbs) covers 9 f#cking divisions of the 17. I'd also like to see HW have a limit like in MMA & there is a super hw division, but its a freak show & largely anyone over 265 is a freak show.

But what will be the difference to you if you removed the 'bs lil guy divisions'? What benefit will you get out of there being a smaller number of divisions, and what number of divisions are ideal (and why)?
I don't really get why people care so much about how many divisions there are.

The lil guy divisions hold lil appeal to most fans. There are virtually never unification fights in those divisions cuz there is no money cuz no one cares.
I think boxing is better with less bs divisions few care about. I think boxing would be better if people could actually name all the champions like in the old days. Boxing is so confusing with so many weight divisions + so many titles.

I think it has something to do with remembering who the champs are. There's so many divisions and belts you can't keep track of everyone.
Getting rid of 3-5 divisions would help. It would also make becoming a world champ a little harder which makes the accomplishment that much more impressive.
However, I wouldn't get rid of all the little divisions like the the guy above me is suggesting. Those little guys deserve a chance at glory as well.
