GGG is just referencing the respect and admiration for Mexican boxing which caused him to seek out a Mexican trainer when he moved to the States.

Many European boxers and boxing fans have that same admiration for the Mexican style. Ricky Hatton called himself "The Manchester Mexican" and came into the ring for some of his fights wearing a sombrero.



Another UK boxer, an Irish traveller called Michael Armstrong, took it a stage further than Ricky and Golovkin .. he not only wore a sombrero, but actually changed his name, legally, to Michael Gomez, and passed that name down to his children.

One of his sons, Michael Gomez Jr, is following in his dad's fistic footsteps.
