Why couldn't Schafer get a U.S. TV deal for WBSS?

It can't be because only one American is in the tournament can it?
Because there is an HBO card tomorrow with no Americans on the telecast.
I think 7 belts are involved. Just one 168 title is missing.
    So, what is the problem?

Surprised nobody picked it up also. The 168 tourney doesn't even have arguably the 2 best guys at the weight in it in Degake and Ramirez but the winner will certainly have made a name for himself at the end of it. The cruiser tourney is lit, unfortunately it's all European guys that nobody in the U.S. Gives a damn about.

They just announced another fight on American soil. I wouldn't doubt it if they're still in negotiations right now because they've been reaching deals yesterday and today

Its too many dates all at once. Just for the opening round its insane. There are 8 dates in 4 countries in 8 weeks. If any boxing channel has maintained that schedule ever I'd be surprised. Plus who gots the TV time for that? They gotta plan dates depending on their broadcast schedule + counterprogramming now. This tournament in general has been rather US-unfriendly which is something boxing powers that be aren't used to. The schedule for this is mostly afternoon-ish too which isn't gonna fly well in the US overall.

Not sure what the WBSS was asking for this fights, but I could easily see the amount they are wanting + unworkability of the schedule as something that would kill most bidders from making an offer.

I suspect they'll find someone for the semifinals & beyond doe in the US. Thats a more workable schedule with 6 fights in 5ish months & they will likely be the more interesting fights as many of the opening round fights aren't THAT competitive, I suspect we see 2 upsets max & I could see all favorites winning (believe the only real pickem-ish fight is the Brant vs Braehmer fight).

I also think the WBSS made it a harder sell in the US by requiring all 14 fights be sold as a whole instead of breaking them up into 2 7 fight tournaments with a more reasonable schedule or into a 3 (8/4/2) option purchase by round.

With the fights overseas those are 5pm time slots.

Hell He'll of they sell the rights for 1 mill at this point it's good. 1 mill is better than nothing. If it gets ratings they will get legit money the next time around.

Gotta learn loss leaders in biz.

No one picked it up at all?

They should stream the opening round on Youtube and Facebook and look for interest for the later rounds. Theyre great fights.
