By Cliff Rold - Competition can be contagious. It takes the right circumstances. A truly loaded division is often the right circumstance. When a division has only one or two avenues to a payday, or holding a single belt is the only way to get paid, matters slow to a crawl. Supporting casts can get risk averse waiting for a chance to cash in or playing for a sole mandatory. That can be boxing at its least fun...

Good stuff, I had a 'Casual Moment' when I boxrec'd Payao Poontarat ; I looked at the record and said ' awe he a bum look at dis chit mane! ' I didn't know he was the first Thai boxer to win the first medal for his country and won gold at light-flyweight in Montreal....then as Mr. Rold pointed out he was also unofficially involved in what purist may consider the first unification @ Superfly.

How fitting it is to use a great Thai legend whos career somewhat parallels whats happening this Saturday with Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez vs. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai as Payao Poontarat vs. Jiro Watanabe first encountered was also controversial so much so that it lead to the very same sanctioning body ( WBC ) to order a immediate rematch -- sound similar?

      WAR SUPERFLY THA SAGA CONTINUES!!!

Yeah, don't confuse a bad run with a short run. All you have to do is watch the Poontarat-Watanabe fights to see he could go.

I remember when HBO used to air Holmes, Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield, Foreman - now they air guys who's size is better suited in the Kentucky Derby! No wonder HBO Boxing has gone to *****!! Please, bring back names general public care about.

The ratings for Gonzalez-Cuadras last year indicate boxing fans care about this crew almost as much as anyone else right now short of Canelo perhaps. It's not an either/or. Even back in the day, not every show had a Tyson. Some nights had stuff as bad as Terry Norris-Brett Lally as a solo show and others had Boxing After Dark making new stars at 122 lbs.
