  • How Canelo Box GGG w.o JAB?

As you know when it comes to power ppl favour Ggg, even Canelo side.
Canelo side's only answer when they are asked how they will beat Ggg is that Canelo will stay away and box him with his 'skills'.
So, the last time i checked Ggg was the jabber, one of the best to win fights with it, and Canelo was throwing at most 4 jabs per round (flick jabs).
How is that possible for Canelo to box him without a jab?

I guess with 'skillz' they are referring to slipping punches and then counter with powershots and combinations.

The problem I see is that GGG has a good and solid jab and Canelo will eat many of them. Also, GGG has strong chin and Canelo is coming from lower weightclasses (even though Canelo is big) so I don't know how much damage he can do with his counters.

GGG has proven to crack middleweight handily with his punches. Canelo has strong chin, but can he handle?

Does Gennady effectively use his jab on the backfoot? does he not use it to walk his opponent down and to set up combinations? or you think he is going to solely rely on beating the 'A' side Superstar with a 'Jab in Vegas'.

Does GGG not look like an amateur when he stands in the pocket trading after the old repertoire becomes tiresome? who lands the cleaner punches from more angles? who has more variety? who has faster hands and reflexes? theres more to it than just the 'Jab'.

When you have very skilled fighters with a lot of different tools in their arsenal, they bring out whatever they need in order to win. We saw Mikey Garcia use his jab like we've never seen before against Zlaticanin. GGG has never used his jab like he did vs Lemieux, etc. They use whatever they need to use against the opponent they have in front of them in order to win. There was a time in Mayweather's career where it seemed like he literally forgot the term jab in boxing existed. Then we saw in the Canelo fight, Mayweather used his jab in a way he hasn't used it in a long time.

I say all this to say, Canelo might use his jab in this fight like we've never seen him use it before because he might need to in order keep GGG off of him. He most definitely has the speed and boxing skills/tools needed to be considered a GREAT fighter (incl. a good jab) we just have not seen it in full force yet. Great opposition brings out the best in you.

I don't think Canelo's jab will work against GGG.

I just don't see Canelo boxing GGG w.o. jab unless he turns out to be some Niccolino Locche
Yes I see GGG relying on his jab in Vegas, it's a solid jab. Jabs of the Eastern or Soviet style are stepping in power punches unlike slick American boxers'.
GGG been relying on his jab against Gsomething (10 losses guy), that two double Ms, Lemieux as you've already stressed, Jacobs, Brook... long word short vs every orthodox he used it effectively.

I don't think Canelo can stay at long range and out jab or outbox GGG. GGG has reach on him and one of the best jabs in boxing. I think Canelo's best chance to win is to use timing, accuracy and quick combinations to head and body from mid range. No matter what battle plan Canelo uses I think GGG will beat him. Canelo seems to get better with every fight while GGG is 35 and probably not as quick and sharp as he was a few years ago. Either boxer could win.

Canelo has a great jab. Watch Wilson Kaydens video, he compared Golovkin and Canelo jabs 2 years ago.
