You completely mis understood my post. Mikey should not be applauded for looking desperate enough to go from 135 to 154 just for a big fight in which he most likely gets pummeled. Same for Brook. The great fighters of every era moved up as they grew into the heavier weights, they didn't jump around for a pay day. Theres a lot of names at 140 that Mikey can chew through as he properly grows into the heavier weights. Then theres many more fights at Welterweight which he would be better prepared for. Frankly there are a few fighters who would probably handle him at Welterweight right now. But that would not be the case if he builds up to the weight like the true greats have always done.

Right now Mikey is not daring to be great, he's daring to have a great pay day.

Every great fighter didn't grow into the multiple divisions they fought in. Floyd was in the ring fighting Oscar at 154 about three years after his last fight at 135. Manny fought his second fight with JMM at 130 the same year he fought Oscar at 147. Most of Roy Jones reign at light heavyweight, he could easily fought as a super middleweight. And the list goes on and on.

Yes, Mikey is chasing paydays. But that usually translates into intriguing matchups. And if Mikey can't get the best guys in his division. I'd much rather see him jump up and make intriguing matchups like a Cotto or even a Broner. Instead of him fighting some fringe lightweight keeping busy.

Mayweather had 3 fights at Welterweight before he fought DLH. Pac moved from 135 to 147 and fought a fighter who was passed it and hadn't fought at 147 in over 7 years. And I don't know how Roy Jones comes in to play here, Either way comparing Mikey to Mayweather, Pac, Roy Jones, is kind of silly right? Mikey moving from 135 to 154 for a pay day is beyond ******ity, because he's not chasing an out of shape fighter who's passed it. Mikey goes to 140 he has a few options, if he goes to 147 right now, Thurman, and Spence beat him, possibly even DSG and Porter. If Mikey builds up to it he would fair much better against Thurman and Spence, and I would pick him over both Porter and DSG.

So are you saying Cotto isn't past it?

Cotto just went 12 rounds, non stop. Most punches he's ever thrown in his entire career. Nah he ain't past it, past his prime yeah I won't argue that. But past it means he doesn't have the ability to compete anymore, he cant pull the trigger. He just fought a fighter who is larger than Mikey, most likely at 154 hits harder than Mikey, has a better chin, and has almost the exact same fighting style as Mikey. Mikey moving from 135 to 154 to fight Cotto is in no way comparable to Pac going from 135 to 147 to fight DLH. But if you really think it is, then I say lets just agree to disagree. I'd prefer Mikey to move up weight by weight taking on the top challenges at each division. You prefer him to get merked lol JK. I think he would have a longer/stronger career if he did it that way.

I think it's funny that you hint that Manny "went from 135 to 147 to fight DLH." But hen turn around and say Mikey would be going from 135 to 154 to fight Cotto. You conveniently ignore that Mikey had a fight at 140, much like Manny's one and done against David Diaz at 135. So he's actually jumping from 140 to 154. It's almost the exact situation. Not to mention that DLH had been competitive with the then P4P #1 the year before. Fight beats a fringe contender and he's a beast. DLH is competitive with a primed Floyd and he's past it. Doesn't make sense to me.

Either way, there's no rule that says if Mikey gets his ass kicked by Cotto, he can't return to 135, 140, or wherever he chooses to fight. Who's there for him to fight at 35 in his next fight? Lomachencko ain't gonna fight him. Who's there at 40? Crawford is moving up to 47? And who's there at 47, who makes him as much money as Cotto would? He's an underdog against any relevant welterweight out there. Why not go up one more division and fight a past his prime Cotto and make more money?
