Bermane Stiverne to make way for Wilder-Ortiz

    Wil Esco

According to a few sources it looks like WBC mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne is going to reach a step aside agreement with Deontay Wilder. The deal will allow Wilder to defend his world title against Luis Ortiz in a fight being targeted for Nov. 4 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Showtime.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael reports that a source with knowledge on the situation says that Wilder, Stiverne, and the WBC are nearly done ironing out the agreement which will not only remove the Stiverne roadblock for Wilder-Ortiz, but will also have Stiverne fight on the undercard of Wilder-Ortiz with the winner contractually agreeing to take on the winner of Stiverne’s fight in their next outing.

Stiverne recently had an phone interview a few days ago talking about taking a step aside deal, and mentions that he plans on taking on Dominic Breazeale. Stiverne has only fought once since losing his world title to Wilder January 2015, beating Derric Rossy that November, but hasn’t fought since.

That has a lot of people feeling that it’s kind of unbelievable that Stiverne has managed to find himself as the WBC’s No. 1 contender having only that one fight in nearly two years, but ‘it is what it is,’ as they say.

None of these details have been finalized just yet, but it appears that we’re well on our way.

If Stiverne beats Brazeale I guess maybe some network will pick up a rematch between him and Wilder
Probably better for him to fight someone else than Wilder and see where he stands

Wonder how much Wilder gets to fight Ortiz. It should be more than the $5M he turned down to fight Whyte.

Ortiz is one of the best and most dangerous heavyweights in the world. If Wilder fights him he deserves nothing but respect.

Breazele is absolutely useless Mansour was giving this guy fits and well ahead at the time of the freak stoppage when he bit his tongue half off.

Didn't look that way in his last two fights.
