  • Who has Canelo fought that would give GGG trouble (let alone survive 12)? On the other hand, Lemieux and Jacobs would both have a good chance of beating Canelo.

      2) How many fights did Erislandy Lara have at 160 pounds? Did he become the mandatory challenger to GGG at 160 pounds? Heck, did he even try to become a mandatory challenger at 160 pounds to GGG's titles? The answer is a resounding NO to all these questions. Those are not 'impossible circumstances' as you're claiming. Saying GGG refused to fight Erislandy Lara is like saying Wladimir Klitschko refused to fight a top cruiserweight. They are both in different divisions. If 160 pounds is as weak as you claim it is and if Erislandy Lara is as good as you claim him to be, then why not just go to 160 pounds and force GGG to fight him by becoming the mandatory challenger? If GGG still avoided Lara after that, then you could justifiably claim that GGG is at fault for a proper 'duck'.

      3) Andre Ward's physical incompetency isn't GGG's problems and thus, not his fault.

      4) If you're referring to Ward and Lara as those 2 'best opponents', then they were never a 'POTENTIAL' opponent in the first place since they were never even in the same division as GGG. So he didn't 'refuse' to fight them as a 160 pound boxer. Had they competed at 160 pounds and he still avoided a fight against them, then it would be justifiable to claim he 'refused' to fight them.

      5) All of that is your unsubstantiated, baseless claims. The evidence suggests it's contrary to your baseless, unsubstantiated claims. The evidence suggests that he was a top 5 160 pound boxer and he became the mandatory challenger. Those evidence carry higher credibility to your baseless, unsubstantiated claims.

      6) Erislandy Lara, nor Andre Ward have ever fought at 160 pounds. So as a 160 pound boxer, it's those guys that are inferior to David Lemieux in terms of value / worth.
Excuses and meandering bullshyte, team g strings tools of the trade. In the meantime, g strings kicking 36 in the arse and has fought exactly 1 quality opponent. As noted, in boxing greatness is seldom achieved by looking for reasons not to make quality fights.

Does he really deserve any blame? Since that's what it seems like according to some of the users in this forum. Perhaps keep the criticism exclusive towards GGG's team and exclude it from applying it to GGG specifically?

GGG has nothing but respect for Andre Ward. He rarely ever bad mouths any boxer or opponent unless they are rude to him first. He behaves like a civilized human being. He knocks most of his opponents out and fights in a style friendly way. Yet, somehow all of those things are still not enough. Certain individuals will still find a way or reason to hate on the guy or attack him personally.

That is your subjective opinion on what you personally believe is 'greatness'. 'Greatness' is a subjective word / term that is defined differently.

From an objective viewpoint, all that matters is if GGG is fighting the best opponents (according to the rankings - which he is) in his own natural weight division. Erislandy Lara had his chances of coming up to 160 pounds and earning his shot. Guess what? He refused that chance! What for? Perhaps because he wasn't that serious of taking that fight in the first place.
All of the g string is a respectful, nice person might all be true, but that doesn't put him in the ring with quality opposition does it? Kovalev might be a surly prick but he fights quality opposition and deserves serious credit for it.

          • agree with this thread...although its possible golovkin beats canelo...and he would get a little credit.....but not really a ton like he and his fans and team think

canelo has 0 wins against mws....golovkins trainer says 168 would be his best weight(despite his fans claims about how small he is...most of us recognize that as a desperate attempt to make this canelo fight seem like some great legacy defining fight).....

canelo is talented...but at the end of the day he was whitewashed by a welterweight that was passed his prime.....now granted floyd is great and on another level....but a career MW beating a guy that was whitewashed by a passed his prime floyd isnt all that impressive

golovkin will never live down ducking andre ward at 168...a featherfisted, rusty, andre ward.....

umm you dont know the details of the offer obviously. ward didnt want to fight ggg right away so he wouldnt be rusty. ward wanted to fight ggg after tune ups and at the same time ggg was scheduled to fight for the wbc belt against cotto-canelo(wbc promised ggg as next). postpone a much bigger fight just to fight ward? why would he do that??? also 50-50 split(plus roc nations millions on the side so in reality ward would be making millinos more) and when ggg draws 20k in new york and close to 15k in Los angeles and ward is lucky to get 5k in his hometown? why would he do that???

none of this makes any sense. if ward wanted to fight he would have sent ggg a contract to fight right away with a fair split. the a-side is ducking because he didnt agree to the b-sides nonsensical demands? dont be a fanboy. they feed off of low information fans that hear a story and run with it because they know a lot of people wont look into it. just look at the details and you can see it was nothing but publicity. by the time the offer was analyzed people already had said ggg was ducking because it fed into their confirmation bias but unfortunately its not true.

                • I just can't see how a flat footed fighter with questionable stamina can beat Golovkin, even though clearly GGG is past his best days. Canelo has good upper body movement, but Monroe Jr was slick, and GGG had no issues finding the target.

I don't except a whitewash, but aside from some early success I can't see how Canelo won't eventually get trapped in the ropes and stopped.

ward said they each take one tuneup

and golovkin has waited almost 2 years for the fight he ducked ward for.....

i know it hurts your hero ducked a feathefisted guy who was off for like almost 2 years.....but ward is a true p4p champ...meanwhile your hero picks on welterweights and guys who were beaten by welterweights....he picks on C level middleweights

                    • It's funny how Canelo fans say GGG has only beats C and B fighters. Yes it's true, but who has Canelo beaten that GGG wouldn't dominate at 154/155? Out of the last five fights, who has had the toughest opponent? Who has faced the biggest puncher? Would Canelo beat Monroe and Jacobs?
