Comments Thread For: McGregor Creates UFC Ripple Effect, Jose Aldo Now Wants To Box

CONOR MCGREGOR's professional boxing debut has caused a ripple effect in the UFC. The reigning UFC lightweight champion officially switched codes this past weekend when he took on Floyd Mayweather Jr in a multi-million dollar boxing match. McGregor's first venture into the boxing world, which has brought him the biggest payday of his career, was an unsuccessful one.

Outside the UFC nobody gives a damn about MMA. Boxing is king of combat sports.

I doubt this causes many real problems for the UFC unless someone takes them to court over it via the Muhammad Ali Act (which may or may not be a legit thing to allow one to box despite being a UFC contracted fighter) or via the legality of UFC contracts (of which more than one sports lawyer has said are illegal & if brought to court would be deemed illegal). Thing is idk that most of the people who'd be able to take them to court due to the costs of a lawsuit & time it'd take would have the money to do so & the people who'd have the money to do so wouldn't wanna waste it taking the UFC to court probably.

What it does do is add more issues to the UFC re-signing guys cuz the UFC is already having a nice exodus from them to Bellator cuz in Bellator guys can still make sponsorship money. So more people than ever are not signing an extension before their contract is up. They are testing their market value by being a free agent. And a boxing career would just be one more option for a free agent guy with the UFC to explore.

The history is so deep, its like racehorses are the Sport of Kings, boxing has that same flavor.

LOL I don't think Dana is like that necessarily, but 4 UFC fights is at best 15 months from now & if we rewind Aldo's last 4 fights they've taken place over almost a 3 year period cuz he's been an injury prone guy. And he's not getting any younger (turns 31 in a week & change).

I'd bet against seeing Aldo ever fight in a professional boxing match.
