    Boxing needs to evolve

Clinching is not only an effective weapon if used correctly; it's also a natural part of fist fighting. The only reason why clinching is relatively boring in boxing is that the fighters are broken up. Imagine all the new strategies that would arise, with the fighters now able to push each other around, throw each off balance, hold each other while punching, etc. It would make boxing a more realistic fighting art. Look how effective Ali and Mayweather and Ward and Klitschko have been and clinching is a big part of their game. We could finally start to appreciate the grappling aspects of boxing if the grappling is allowed to evolve. It would actually make the fights MORE entertaining by forcing more knockouts. Fighters won't be able to run and guard all the time anymore, as they can now be held in place, and they won't be able to escape the clinches because they are legal.

It's a sport focused on striking so I'd hate to see clinching become a legal technique. More than that, referees need to enforce the rules so that holding isn't used excessively by fighters with inferior defenses.

I wish they would give them more of a chance to fight their way out of a clinch, or at least let them go at it longer if they have an arm free.

Boxing has already evolved as much as it could. Boxing has regressed in terms of technique and approach. If anything, it needs to go back to how it was in the 80s. Boxing evolved into sht.

There has to be less clinching and better fluidity in a fight.
