Bashing former opponents of your favorite fighters???

I never understood the logic of fans of a particular fighter who bash their opponents prior to or after the fight by calling them bums, hype-jobs, overrated, etc.

I see this a lot with Floyd fans. They call Canelo and Cotto overrated, they refer to the likes of Ortiz as a quitter, Maidana, Guerrero and Berto are bums, Pac was a hype job etc.

How much sense does it make to ridicule and bash these fighters? Essentially, what you are doing is saying that your guy (Floyd in this example) fought nothing but bums and hype jobs all his career. News flash, if you want to convince people of your favorite fighter's greatness, wouldn't you want to praise his opposition rather than knock them down?

I observed the same thing with Ward fans when he won against Kovalev. suddenly Kov was a bum, a hype job. Well, how is beating a bum a feather in Ward's cap then? You are basically discrediting your favorite fighter when you claim his opponents are garbage.

He really was and unlike maidana he could have kept it up for the whole 12 rounds. But he was mentally weak and stayed down

As we learned, Pac had an injured shoulder going in and was all but one-armed after round 4. He deserves some of the blame, but honestly, when you consider what it took to make that fight, he knew he would not get another shot at Floyd had he pulled out to recover first.

Meanwhile, you dismiss his entire body of work. Classic example of what I am talking about.

            LOL.

It is very ironic when you think about it.

It's like "My guy's the best!"

            He wins tough fight.

"See? He exposed that hype job!"

"So the guy he fought was a hype job? Well, I guess it wasn't much of a victory then."

            "Stop hating!"

"You just called him a hype job. That can't be much of a victory."

            "Stay salty! You mad! LOL"

            Very moronic.

But I'm not a fan of Floyd, see the difference? His fans are the ones who trash talk his opponents, which is self-defeating. Floyd does it himself, which is really self-defeating. He admittedly called Gatti a C-rate fighter after beating him. So how do you take credit for these hollow victories when you are saying that your opponent is C-rate?

This is a very valid point.

He may trash Floyd but he's not a Floyd fan.

Floyd fans often trash the competition as saying that they weren't much to begin with which goes against Floyd being a good enough fighter to beat somebody real. Instead he just beat a bunch of guys who weren't that good.

In other words, it would make more sense for Floyd fans or fans of any fighter, to give credit to the opponent they just defeated. It's moronic to say your guy is great and then denigrate every opponent he defeats. If he's great why are all his opponents garbage according to his own fans who then try to stick up for them when pressed?

When your fighter wins, just say he won against a good opponent. He didn't "expose da hype job." He did his job and beat a worthy opponent. Very simple really.

Something Rigo fans have been doing for the last 4 years with regards to Donaire. Now that Rigo's resume has come into question, they've changed their tune and have a done a total 180.
