  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather: Ref Made Right Call to Stop It; He Saved McGregor

LAS VEGAS Conor McGregor feels as though referee Robert Byrd should've let his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. go a little longer. Mayweather completely disagrees. The boxing legend thinks Byrd spared McGregor from unnecessary punishment in a fight he couldn't come back to win Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Byrd stopped their scheduled 12-round junior middleweight match at 1:05 of the 10th round after Mayweather continued tattooing a vulnerable McGregor with power punches.

NSAC broke a lot of rules to make this fight happen. Of course they are going to play it safe. Their reputation was on the line.

Yeah it was a good stoppage, only people who were pulling hard for Conor to win seem to say it was premature. Dude was stumbling across the ring fatigued being hit clean over and over that's just a recipe for permanent damage.

Conor as a competitor will say it was premature but even from what he said it sounds half hearted, i don't think he is truly outraged about it at all.

Ya I don't think casuals realize the stoppage actually hurt mayweather in sense that mcgregor was literally about to take a knee and if not the guy was going to get knocked out. He was to point of no second wind he was done. That stoppage saved mcgregor from turning into an all time meme that's a fact mcgregor knows it. People who don't watch boxing all time might think mcgregor if he could got out round would hade chance but those who watch boxing all one understand it's not like mma he was done he was going to get stopped there's no way he would made it 2.5 more rounds literally no chance

... for conformity: A look back at Floyd Mayweather's last fake fight -- source: Los Angeles Times AUG. 27, 2017, 12:21 A.M.

... "another circus that Mayweather was involved in: Wrestlemania 24 at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl on March 30, 2008.

The diminutive, by comparison, Mayweather was going up against The Big Show (real name Paul Donald Wright II), whose stats were said to be 7 feet and almost 400 pounds of both muscle and the opposite of muscle. Any way you look at it, he was a big guy. It was a no-disqualification match, of course."

Of course it was a good stoppage u either care about fighters or don't and the only outcome had it gone on even 20 more seconds was mcgregor on ground to tired to make 10 count let's just be honest

Almost the entire 9th and 10th rounds McGregor was not defending himself, he was just running, he took a ton of shots. And him talking about that they should have let him stumble back to his stool to see the 11th discounts the fact that there were still almost 2 minutes left in the 10th. There was zero chance he was making it another minute much less 2.

We have guys dying in the ring. Getting brain damage, concussions, etc. The stoppage was right.

He shouldn't have been in there. And you can best believe Dana and Ari didn't want him taking too many shots. No doubt they made sure the NSAC relayed that message to Byrd.

He's worth way too much money to them to lose him (delayed return) for a boxing event.

I have to give credit to Connor, he's not crying about it, just saying he wanted to be knocked out. He got saved from being a highlight reel knock out on Floyd's resume.
