Comments Thread For: Buster Douglas: A McGregor Win Would Trump My KO of Tyson

Conor McGregor beating Floyd Mayweather would be the biggest upset EVER ... this according to the man responsible for the most shocking upset in boxing history. We talked to former heavyweight champion Buster Douglas with MayMac about to go down tonight in Las Vegas... and he told us that Conor taking out Floyd would be waaay crazier than him KO'ing Mike Tyson back in 1990.

That was probably M.Tysons worst performance hes ever had while still relevant besides Tillis who he admitted to being able to K.O anytime he wanted . A more heavier 20 pound stronger younger guy to K.o a much smaller inacive fighter doesnt come close to even Douglas upsetting M.Tyson also undeafeted even without Rooney ,it was shocking . That Tyson still more formidable than what McGregor is to Mayweather .

Tyson at the time of the Douglas fight:

        1. Left Rooney - forgot all about head movement

        2. Was mind ****ed and hemorrhaging money (last years divorce, debts)

        3. Surrounded by yes men who were too incompetent to even deal with a swelling

        4. Despite what HBO shill Lampley later claimed in his doctored footage IT WAS A 13-14 SECOND COUNT. Tyson let it go at the time, but he showed in his 2013 Undisputed Truth show unedited footage of the count which undeniably proves it was a 14 second count. Remember Lampley was refused a post fight interview with Tyson in his last fight with HBO before jumping to Showtime. He knew back then but kept it quiet. He wanted a rematch and to avenge his loss, and thought that would be better than having Kinig continue denying Buster's win.

        5. No one has ever beaten a prime Tyson. Ever. Holyfield got him when he was jaded, post-Rooney and had to headbutt him TWICE.

        6. Lewis and subsequent opponents fought a Tyson who just making a cameo appearance and was old before his time.

McGregor isn't as good as Dougles and Mayweather is a lot better than Tyson. So yeah, this would beat that by a distance.

It would be a way bigger achievement given that McGregor is not actually a boxer.

But I don't think anything will ever be as big as Douglas ko'ing Tyson, because no boxer is ever likely to be that famous again.

You better get ready for some blow back. Some people aren't going to agree with you. I however remember the fight and agree that it was one hell of a count for Buster.

Douglas is very wrong. Nothing would ever eclipse his upset of Tyson. Tyson was 23 and knocking everybody out. And Douglas had 4 loses, all to knockout. Douglas wasn't expected to survive the first round. Sprayweather is 40 and coming out of retirement, McGregor is a MMA star. It would be a huge upset but couldn't touch Douglas vs Tyson

Well technically Douglas did beat a prime Tyson. Although Douglas fought the best fight of his life, Tyson fought his worst which is how we got the greatest upset in boxing history. Tyson hardly training, being 20 pounds overweight a month before the fight and drinking, doing drugs and ****ing the night before the fight didn't help. And no Kevin Rooney meant no peak a boo defense which showed in the fight.

It was indeed a 14 second count (I just timed it to make sure), but not sure it affected the outcome. Douglas was on 1 elbow listening to the count and made a move to get up at 4, then seemed to change his mind and waited for 6 instead before getting up (debate being was he unable to get up at 4 or was the wait until 6 deliberate).

When he finally got to his feet, the bell rang. So if he got up at an exact count of 10 seconds, there would have been only 4 seconds left in the round.

Exact 10 counts (in terms of 10 seconds) are a real rarity though. eg when Ward went down, Ward didn't need a 10 count as he was up on his feet straight away, but if you note, the referee got to 6 about 10 seconds after Ward touched down (then Ward continuing at about 8, and could have continued much earlier, so no impact on the fight, but pretty 'normal' in terms of counts I think).

I think it was Indongo recently where it stuck me how fast the count seemed to the point where I timed it as it looked so unusual. Result...count was exactly 10 seconds.
