ESPN should bring back FNF's. Agenda-free Boxing, not promoter-specific, they could be 2, C+ level dudes I never heard of, Boxing in a high-school gymnasium, in Peoria IL, bashing each other's heads in, for crying out loud. And I LOVED IT!!! Never got tired of Watching that series. Not attached to any promoter, and they had honest commentary, with no agendas. Enjoyed listening to Boxing commentary from Teddy, Bob Papa, Kenny Mayne, and yes, even Max. They should have never stopped That Series.

$40m to Pacquiao, counting backwards, would've required that the event clear $200m on PPV for Floyd to end up with a 50/50 split on the fight (Mayweather-Alvarez had set the high-water mark at $150m on PPV in 2013).
Letting the fight not happen another three years definitely helped feed the anticipation (which led to the surprise when the returns did come in), but you'd be a fool if you that that the fight would've done more than $200m in PPV revenue in 2012.
Yes, Pacquiao walked out on a fair deal in 2012, lost to Bradley and got deaded by Marquez in 2012, an luckily hung around in nonsense fights until to old guard boxing press could rebuild the fight lucked out on a boon in 2015.Comment

GRJ fought once in 2015. Once in 2016. And so far once in 2017.
As of right now, he's a one-fight-a-year fighter.
The point still stands...Mares has had one fight since August 2015.
That's great....
Except there apparently wasn't enough money for a "big money" fight with Mares this year, and SHO reportedly didn't have interest in tune-ups.
http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-40000054-4The rematch between featherweight world titleholder Leo Santa Cruz (33-1-1, 18 KOs) and secondary titlist and mandatory challenger Abner Mares (30-2-1, 15 KOs), which was penciled in to headline a Showtime card on Oct. 7 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, will not happen this year, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation told EPSN. The WBA, the organization sanctioning the fight, canceled a purse bid recently when the camps told it a deal was in place -- but it never did get completed, the sources said. There were a variety of issues, including how the fighters would split the money. Also, the source said that the Santa Cruz side preferred for there to be a doubleheader on which both fighters faced other lesser opponents before having the rematch in early 2018, but that did not interest Showtime.Comment
