    Footwork Talk

It's easy to look at a Rigo or a Loma and say they have great footwork, but why?

What makes for great or even good footwork?

I know that a straight spine is crucial for balance. I also see that a narrow stance is generally much better than a wider one and smaller steps are better than bigger ones.

Anyone have any good footwork advice?

Do a lot of shadowboxing and focus on footwork and balance.

Shadowboxing is the best way to develop footwork.

A great thing to watch Loma work.

Yeah, I like to shadow box but sometimes I wonder if I'm actually learning anything new about footwork beyond telling the obvious guys who appear on balance from those who clearly are not.

I've always noticed how Roman Gonzalez keeps his lead foot pointed at his opponent's middle. I like how he explains about moving the hips, too and how you can close so much space that way while the other guy is expending way too much energy for a simple task. Excellent video.

Very good video. So many guys don't throw anything while moving. They must get set first and then the opponent is nowhere to be found. Excellent advice.

              Great thread
              Footwork is hardly mentioned nowadays

I always thought Pacquiao had great footwork/placement until I watched him in the ring with Floyd
Bernard Hopkins had great footwork believe it or not
Hence why he was rarely knocked down
