Carl Frampton splits from Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions

Carl Frampton makes a major move.

FORMER two weight world champion Carl Frampton has announced that he has split from manager Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions.

Frampton stated, “I can confirm that I have parted company with Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions. I would like to thank Barry, and the McGuigan family and Cyclone promotions for our time together.

“Having taken time to consider my future and discussed it with those closest to me, I am confident that now is the right time to move forward and take my career into my own hands.

“I still believe that I’m the best featherweight in the world and I promise my fans that I am continuing with my efforts to get a homecoming fight rescheduled in the very near future.”

Frampton unified titles at super-bantamweight and moved up to 126lbs where he dethroned WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz in 2016. He has had a nightmare year in 2017, losing a rematch to Santa Cruz and then seeing a homecoming fight in Belfast abruptly cancelled last month. Frampton missed weight for a non-title bout with Andres Gutierrez, only for their bout to fall through when his opponent fell in the shower the night before.

It must be a difficult move. Frampton is close to the whole McGuigan family. Frampton has spent his professional career with Barry McGuigan as his manager and mentor and, after leaving Matchroom, joined the promotional company run by McGuigan’s son Blane. Frampton’s trainer is also Barry’s son Shane.

Wow am actually surprised, but that's boxing for you. And i think some boxers get to the point where they can do it by themselves. Obviously they would still need people to run/sort things out for them but by cutting out the promoter they would increase their potential earning quite a bit.

The problem with nearly all boxers, they still thinking they are businessmen and know more than trainers and managers. Facts he lost a rematch as he was outboxed, failed to make weight in comeback, who has he got but himself to blame, so they dumb way what he is doing put the blame on somebody and go to another promoter like Hearns or warren.

He knows he is finished the next fight could be his last as he will get stopped on the comeback, and also Mcgugian knows this otherwise he would have asked me to stay and given a financial incentives, betting man says he gets laid out in his next fight unless a soft touch or feather fister puncher like Lee Selby or he look for a bigger money fighter with another light punching sissy in Josh Warrington

Ffs lads a week before he missed weight for his last fight he resigned as a director of cyclone promotions.

Cyclone promotions have been robbing him blind, he's probably had one of the worst deals in boxing.

He's broke free from money greed mcguigan.

The McGuins and Carl were a good tight knit group, almost like a family in their BBC documentaries

Alright, Carl Frampton officially jumps down to average level. Expect his top-flight career to be finished within two-three fights. The signs are all there: peaking against Santa Cruz, starting the descent against the same fighter. Missing weight for a "who cares" fight. Now the split with his mentor.
