    Selling the fight

What does this term mean exactly? When fighters are talking **** or saying outrageous things like Conor's "Floyd is going down in 2" is that really selling a fight? Like, will people actually buy the fight for **** talking and crazy statements like that? Manny-Floyd didnt have too much **** talking and it sold but maybe thats because that was a fight people wanted to see for years.

Also, when ex boxers or ex trainers or anybody outside of boxing talks about a fight, they are also considered "selling the fight". Do people buy a fight because a guy like Jones Jr for example mentions it?

Are people actually that naive that some **** talking will get them to spend $60-$100 on a fight just so see the big mouth lose? What does "selling the fight" mean to you exactly?

Fights like Mayweather/McGregor pretty much sell itself.

All the theatrics and nonsense is for the person who isn't a fan of boxing or MMA that might be watching Sportscenter and order the fight because of it.

Selling the fight is just building the hype. People want to see guys who hate each other, fight each other.

Putting asses in the seats and making people buy the PPv's by making people interested in the fight.

People don't go to or buy fights because they look great on paper, they do because they are fans of either one of the guys in the ring and want to be there to cheer.

Selling this fight for both sides has been to pretend McGregor has a chance. We all predicted this months ago, that Conor's people would leak selective tape of him looking good, that was predicted exactly by me and dozens of other posters. That there would be rumors that Mayweather is slipping and maybe got tagged in sparring was predicted exactly by me and many others too.

Dana White though took it too far, they lied about sparring with Chris VanHeeren and he was smart enough to tape it himself, he dominated Conor. And then they lied about sending the full tape to Showtime, that has now been exposed, they sent 60 seconds of selectively edited sparring film, they could only find 60 good seconds in 12 rounds? If Conor had really bested Paulie, they'd be able to release whole 60 seconds segments, several of them.

Conor is not a serious opponent for Mayweather, but this isn't about serious boxing, it's entertainment.
