Comments Thread For: McGregor 'Very Pleased' With NSAC Picks for Referee, Judges

Conor McGregor was completely pleased with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's choices of referee and judges for his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. The NSAC announced during its meeting Wednesday that it has assigned veteran referee Robert Byrd to officiate the Mayweather-McGregor fight August 26 in Las Vegas. It also announced Reno, Nevada's Burt Clements, Las Vegas' Dave Moretti and Italy's Guido Cavalleri will judge the 12-round, 154-pound boxing match at T-Mobile Arena.

      No Excuses

So Conor got a compromise on the gloves, a ref he is pleased with, a foreign judge from Italy, and got favorable pic and video footage from sparring sessions with an ex champion. And his coach and notable people in the MMA are saying he has a really good chance, that he will actually knock out Floyd. There is no talk at all from Conor's side that this match will be unfair with everything considered, down to the money. He has gotten a lot for a fighter being on the B side. You have to commend mayweather for that, hate him or not. And Conor is pretty confident whether it's false bravado, promotion, hype, or he actually believes he will win. BUT excuses will come from the same people giving Conor a shot when Floyd destroys him in the ring. People that post on here. He had no legit boxing experience, he was over rated as an MMA fighter, the ref didn't let him fight, they should have gave him 6 oz gloves or something ****** like that. Or he needed more time to prepare. He can't take a boxers punch. He doesn't have the stamina of a boxer. He over trained. His training should have been more conventional. Dana White took advantage, exploited him knowing he couldn't win. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..LOL!!!

Bryd is fine to McGregor and he also likes Weeks, that pretty much give you his fight plan but first he's got to get to the inside of Floyd. NSAC needs to have a conference with Bryd, the 3 judges(probably not necessary), the two teams, NSAC Supervisor and a copy of the contract to set what are boxing moves and blows and what are considered MMA moves and blows not allowed. Can you fake a spinning back-fist, miss and follow-up with a legal punch? Can he hop in knee raised close distance like a front-kick then punch? None of us really know what is off limits, does the officials and referee know. It should look like a boxing match between two boxers(sic).

Exactly, but there is only one boxer in the ring, so who cares

This is a pointless proposition. Byrd is a professional ref who has been involved in many big fights over the years. He is also familiar with MMA and the differences between the two sports. As an experienced pro ref, he should be very familiar with what is allowed in boxing and what is considered a foul or grounds for disqualification. By having an extra meeting just to confirm he knows what's an MMA move and what's a boxing move is basically saying he is not a competent enough ref on his own to know the difference and take action accordingly as is deemed necessary from his own judgement and experience.

Yes, Byrd is a competent referee but like all he's made his share of mistakes too in straight-up boxing matches. Better to plan for the known/unknown scenarios than to be flat footed if it happens. If this was a straight-up boxing or MMA match rather than an EVENT I would completely agree but it ain't.

If Conor's gonna knock him out in 4, no wait...2, no wait....1, why does he care about having an international judge?

One thing that ain't happening is a McGregor victory on points.
