Crazy to think that a boring defensive first fighter is the reason why boxing would die.....please, boxing is thriving right now despite of Mayweather not because of him. I never heard so many people diss boxing like they did after the May/Pac fight....it's not his fault people are ****** he just takes advantage of them.
Boxing is thriving right now? With Golovkin doing 150k ppvs and #1 and #2 p4p fighters getting a whole 160k buys? That is thriving??? No, it really isn't. hbo is practically out of boxing, they will pay for a few fights a year and that's it. Boxing is far from thriving. The only fighter who brings fans and the $$$ that comes with them is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Yes, imagine if a 65-0 Duran fought an opponent with a record of 0-1 today. And obviously Mayweather was already very well known before ODLH, otherwise how do you explain how that crushed every other ppv in history until May-Pac? ODLH got about 900k ppvs, but got triple that with Floyd.

You can think watching Lomachenko fight nobodies on espn and the #1 and #2 p4p fighters fighting each other for 160k buys is thriving, but Sugar Ray Leonard got just as many ppvs fighting Hagler three decades earlier. What a joke, boxing is relegated to "other" on sport sites such as espn, and is never mentioned by mainstream media, unless it is Floyd Mayweather. I like boxing now as much as ever, and Haymon has been making great fights and many on free tv. But come on, this is a joke. Boxing is dead. Go ask people to name two fighters not named Floyd Mayweather and see how many can pass the test. I would guess less than 1% of the population can. That might be thriving in your world, but in reality it is just sad.

I think the fight does 3.5 to 4 mil ppv. It does extremely well but does not break the may/pac numbers.

Mayweather was well known before DeLaHoya? Is that why his first 3 PPV's did less than a million buys all together? Is that why Mayweather fights against Ortiz and Guerrero did only 1 million and his fight with Canelo did 2.3 million buys yet both his fights with Maidana did less than 2 million and Berto did 500k? People are ****** and easily duped, I don't blame floyd for taking advantage of ****** people and from what I see at boxing events the sport is still thriving. real boxing people are pumped for Canelo vs GGG and just because ****** people are falling for this circus doesn't make it a good event.

Real boxing people are the ones who paid to see Mayweather-Gatti too. See, when boxing is thriving there are a lot more "real boxing people". You say Mayweather doing 300k makes him unknown, but G doing half that proves "real boxing people" are pumped and boxing is thriving.

Yes, real boxing fans like me and you are pumped for G fighting his first real opponent and were for both Ward-Kov fights and for Garcia-Broner, but when boxing is thriving casual sports fans know numerous boxers. When someone turns on espn and sees coverage of a fight, or reads about it in the newspaper, then ppvs soar and the general, casual sports fans get excited too. Now, man the same 100 people on here everyday are pumped, boxing has never been better! lmao, wishful thinking. 30 years ago, Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Holmes, Tyson, Barkley and many others were known among the masses. Today Mayweather and to a lesser extent Pac are, other than that boxing is dead except to the few "real boxing people" left.

Today kids aren't growing up with dreams of being a boxer. In the 80's with all those household names, they were the sports idols of the day. Today it is football and NBA. What should be todays top boxers are playing tight end or power forward.

Mayweather was very well known which is why he has the three highest ppvs ever. Of course when you are over a 5-1 favorite not as many people are going to pay to watch. Which is why Mayweather-Berto and Mayweather-Guerrero fell flat and why ODLH only got 380k buys against Sturm after getting nearly a million against Fernando Vargas.

I love boxing, I follow it religiously. When I first started following it in the 90's a lot of my friends, the classic casual sports fan knew many boxers and would buy the big fights. Today no one knows any pro boxers besides a 40 year old fighting a MMA guy with 0 pro boxing fights. Boxing is dead. Boxing should be its own section like football, basketball, baseball, but it is now thrown into the other category alongside of horse racing. If boxing is thriving so is horse racing. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but both are practically dead right now.

Boxing has a cult following. It will never die. Boxing sells PPVs. Ward-Kov did some things. Not on a Mayweather or Pac scale but it showed there are enough boxing fans to strongly carry the sport. With PBC and Top Rank ESPN, casuals already have the opportunity to get exposure to the top guys. They are doing what UFC did finally and it will reap dividends in the long game.

Mayweather will not get credit when he beats McGreggor, and he will figuratively lose if this went to distance.

Mayweather will win in terms of financial gain, no matter how you slice it.
