Comments Thread For: Joshua's Coach: 8-Ounce Won't Affect Mayweather vs. McGregor

Rob McCracken, trainer of IBO, WBA, IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, believes a change in glove size will have no affect on the outcome of next Saturday's fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC superstar Conor McGregor. McGregor will make his professional boxing debut against Mayweather on August 26th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The contest takes place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds, which requires that both combatants use 10-ounce gloves.

Agree wholeheartedly, 7 pounds over WW, 2 oz. in gloves. 10 oz gloves up 6 Divisions and 100+ pounds; no it doesn't matter, particularly in this case. If it was Joshua v Mayweather, h--l yes it counts.

I think it favors Floyd. McGregor had never been in a professional boxing fight. Mayweather had every single advantage. May knows McGregor will not be able to hit him so giving him 8 ounce gloves will make him swing for the fences and miss, tiring him out. Then I may be lights out for mac after that. Good night

McGregor prediction reminds me of Holyfield predicting a 4 round knockout of Lewis before the first fight.

If Money's hands are healthy, it benefits him since he's the one that will be landing the majority of punches. My concern would be the risk of injury increasing with the smaller gloves and Mayweather hurting himself part way through the fight.
