Well they couldn't get him a fight at all. I'm not neccessarily talking about just Cotto's earnings, but the promotional company at as a whole. Don't they have a very small stable of fighters and struggle to get their fighters fights?

I looked it up after posting, they have about a dozen total. They have Ward, Rigondeaux, and a bunch of random no names.

Yeah, when the fallout happened with Cotto and Roc Nation, Roc Nation bought out Cotto's contract. I'm sure or I believe Cotto walked away with at least them paying him $5 million to buy out the contract. So he made $10 mill for Geale, $20 mill for Canelo and $5 mill to walk away, plus whatever Golden Boy is paying him for the Kamegai fight, not bad. But those two years of inactivity did leave some money on the table as you said.
